We had a great day at the junior presentations yesterday!

Well done to all the volunteers, parents and kids who helped make this season enjoyable and successful!

It is important to recognise Junior President Clint Farell whose leadership is marching us forward into a bright future for junior cricket. Well done Clint!

More junior award winners to come 🏆

If Tom Doherty is half as good a plumber as he is cricketer then the town’s pipes are in good hands.

Back to back premiers for the first time since 12/13, 13/14!!

We lost the toss and were sent into the field, but we would have bowled anyway so put that one in the win column.

Damo and Lachy opened up as usual and both bowled very well and were unlucky not to get a wicket. Andy and Carter came on next and kept things tight before Carter took a sharp caught & bowled chance in the 19th over to dismiss Maslin. Sov 1/80 at drinks. After drinks we kept it very tight for 8 overs or so. Lachy Corney took a sharp chance in the gully to give Chris Cantwell our second wicket. Damo came back on and bowled well to finish his spell, taking a wicket. Lachy came back on to finish from the top end picking up 3 wickets, including a sensational caught & bowled. Tom Doherty didn’t want to bowl but was forced to bowl the last over, taking 2 wickets in 2 balls because he’s just that good at cricket. A special mention to Damo’s underrated performance taking 1/14 off 8.

With the bat it was the Tom Doherty show! Lachy and Riley opened up but both fell early leaving us in trouble at 2/13. Hayden and Tom steadied the ship putting on 64 before Haydos fell just after drinks. Carter scored a run-a-ball 17 while Tom kept doing Tom things. Andy came in with us still needed 72 to win. A classy 26 guided us to the end with Tom finishing 84 not out, hitting the winning runs with a massive 6!

Wheatvale also picked up a number of individual awards including:
Player of the final - Tom
Rep player of the year - Tom
Bowing average - Carter
All rounder of the year - Carter
Runner up player of the year - Carter
Player(s) of the year - Andrew Ryan and Lachy Boal.
But these are insignificant as we’d all rather win the premiership as a team than individual awards.

A special mention to Chris Cantwell who won the inaugural Jonno Colfs memorial for the “best person” in the comp. Not surprising given the calibre of man he is.

A special thanks to everyone who supported us this season. Hopefully we can make it a 3-peat next season.

A full season wrap should be up later this week.

RESULT- Condamine Cup Reserve Grade Final- WH Colts 6/145 (20) defeated Allora 7/127 (20) by 18 runs

The Green Ants took a punt after winning the toss on Saturday, opting to send the opposition in for the final game of the season. Will Ole was unlucky with a wicket off a no ball, as Colts got off to a decent start. Player of the match Lachlan Gross (51 off 46) was a constant throughout the innings, as Allora were able to consistently break partnerships. Clancy Shrimp (3/31 off 3) was the main destroyer for the Green Ants, as Colts finished up on 6/145.

The chase started off well. Will Ole finished off a good individual season with a great knock of 42 (32), before being unluckily dismissed LBW to a low bouncing delivery. He combined with Jason Manttan (25) for a 74 run opening stand in the opening 11 overs. Middle order wobbles cost the Green Ants, not for the first time this season, the only other score of note being from Liam Wren (25*), Allora eventually falling short of the target by 18.

Team list Thursday.

1. Lachlan Boal - The fearless leader. Coming off a GF ton last season, can he go again? An absolute threat at the top of the order.

2. Riley Doherty - last seasons premier bowler. Gave it up this season to focus on his batting to “give someone else a chance to take wickets.” A real threat at the top of the order.

3. Hayden Doherty - The glove man. The import. All class. A proper threat at #3.

4. Tom Doherty - The raging bull. Questionable footwear connoisseur, one hell of a cricketer. A huge threat at #4.

5. Carter Bilbrough - Up and down with the bat this year but scores runs fast. Taken Riley’s spot as the frontline spinner. A double threat??

6. Andrew Ryan - The people’s champ. Loves a cameo with the bat. Has saved us multiple times this season. A super threat with the ball.

7. Jordan Stonehouse - The butcher. Specialist point fielder. Watch out for him with the ball, he’ll cut you in half.

8. Lachlan Corney - The corndog. All class starting the innings with the ball. Swings it both ways. Look out for him to have a massive game.

9. Damien Boal - Rapid. Swings it a mile. Loves to find some flesh with the new ball. Pencil him in for early wickets.

10. Will Corney - The young blood. Has had a stellar season. Great in the field. Rumour has it he beat his dad in an arm wrestle to secure this spot.

11. Chris Cantwell - Weapon. The gentle giant. Played more cricket matches than the rest of us have had hot dinners. Watch out if he gets going with the bat, those long levers hit it a long way. Mega threat with the ball.

12. Andrew Corney - The super sub. Lost an arm wrestle to Will, though he’ll say he let him win 😉
