RASPBERRY

Our resident Irishman Val Gray, generously sponsored the St Patrick’s Day Bowls on Saturday. It was another fun day enjoyed by all, especially with the Val coughing up for the prizes and volunteers stepping up to make it happen successfully.

Thanks to the Robyn Davidson for cooking up the Irish stew supposedly with the help of Clark. I’m not sure how much of the Guinness actually made it in the stew, but it still tasted good.

Cheers to Peter Ridgewell for rolling the green and helping out in the kitchen as well as Cheryl Wickham.

Robyn also took on bar duties and did a great job. Whispering Pete, Warwick’s best barmaid, showed up to supervise and had a hard time watching from the other side for a change.

Just to be Irish, prizes went to positions and names on the card and not necessarily where they ended up playing.
Marian Cirson, Max Balfour, Dave Scotney, Jim Lamb, Barry Frame, Ray Southee and Roger Cavanagh all received prizemoney for their talent or lack thereof.

Best dressed went to Billy “leprechaun” Lee who showed up in his outstanding outfit. Some say he sleeps in it just so he can get lucky.
Well dressed second went to Flicka with her outfit covered in clover.
Marion Frame also received prize money for her Irish looking outfit much to the surprise of many people who looked green with envy.

Various raffle prizes from chocolate bunnies and cash envelopes to bottles of spirits including Cuervo tequila went to Tony Osmond, Jenney Lyons, Marion Frame, Geoff Davis, Val Gray, Dave Scotney, Billy Lee, Pat Seipelt, Daryl Busch, and Barry Heffernan.

Dave was ecstatic winning a bottle of red cordial but donated it back to the club, saying he was silly enough without it. Sometimes you just have to agree with him. 🤪

ALL GOBBLED UP

Turkey Triples had 14 teams roll up for the day with 2 games of 14 ends played.
The green was running excellent and was a credit to the volunteers that put the effort in. 👏👏 Thanks must go to Clark as usual for organising the teams and making last minute changes as well as numerous other jobs.

Cheryl Ridgewell stepped in and did a great job with the food for morning tea and lunch. All the other people who gave a hand were much appreciated.
It’s not known to all, but Dave Scotney has been mowing and whipper snipping the grounds every week. Thanks Dave. Just give him a call if you want yours done, he’s free.
The best barmaid in Warwick was sadly missed. Get well Pete.

Congratulations to the winners for the day who were Marion Skaines, Geoff Creighton and Ronny Philps.

Runners-up were Wayne Foster, Cita Weier and Hollywood Collis.

Lucky card winners were Barry Ziebell, Daryl Busch and Barry Heffernan.

Brian Walsh, Barry Heffernan, Barry Ziebell, Lorna Tucker and Pamela Kerr all picked up some cash in the raffle. I’m still waiting for that shout!

Winners at the Warwick Bowls Club Triples were Barry Frame/Dave Scotney, Clark Davidson and Barry Ziebell.

Saturday, we had the Club A Grade Singles with 21 competitors in the starting box.
The green was running great and excellent shots were played in the warm and humid conditions.
However, we did not have any racial comments, but it was noted that some people will do anything to win, even trying to psych out the opposition with their new bowls shoes.

Lynn Collie was lucky enough to win the members draw and took home $40.

SUCH TALENT


The District Men’s Pairs Competition was on over the weekend, playing Saturday at Warwick East and Southern Cross Clubs and again on Sunday at the Cross.

They had a wet track on Saturday and dry day Sunday with all players delivering some great shots no matter what the conditions.

The cream rose to the top and now the final will be between Jamie Zamprogno and Tony Schubert against Dale Callaghan and Frank Taylor at The Summit Bowls Club on Saturday 2nd of March at 10am.

👏👏Thanks to all who played and those who contributed to make it a success, especially the “talent” in the kitchen.
