GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP!

One of the biggest issues for women is getting enough sleep.

Being good quality restful sleep!

When we are busy, stressed out, over tired and over worked.
Sleep patterns become interrupted.

If you are a shift work, this can have a huge impact on your health long term.

Our bodies are designed with a Circadian Rhythm.

At night when the sun goes down our bodies are slowing down for sleep as well.
Then when the sun is rising our bodies also start to wake up internally and externally.

Before electricity and artificial lighting that’s how humans lived their lives.

For us it is different, in this digital age.

Creating similar habits to get that good night’s rest by turning off screens an hour or so before bed.

Read a book or meditate in stead of having the TV or computer on.

Get up and go for a walk out doors, let the sunshine on you.

Lowering stress levels and understanding what your triggers are.
So that you are in control of your emotions, in control of the stress.

Of course, there are things that we can not control, it’s more about what we can control and taking steps toward that goal.

Stress raises your Cortisol levels and use up the precious adrenal hormones, leaving you feeling exhausted.

I know I have been so totally exhausted and didn’t even know how that had happened.

I was so busy just trying to get through each day as it came.
My stress levels where always on high alert.

It was a hard lesson to learn to slow down and that it was Ok to take time for me.

Rest is not being lazy it is a vital part of recovery.
Allowing the body to heal and replenish hormones.

Let the nervous system calm back down instead of always in fight or flight mode.

Not to feel guilty about taking a break.

Re-frame you’re thinking about sleep and relaxing.

Through the night our body and brain go through different cycles to repair and download the previous day’s work.

It not a good feeling being tired and exhausted.
Then you get into bed and your eyes are wide open, the brain is continuing it’s conversations.
Thought patterns are going round and round in your head.

Finally falling asleep to wake a few hours later and then not being able to get back to sleep for another few hours just as the alarm goes off.

Changing a few habits like eating dinner a couple of hours before bed.
Turning off screens.
Getting up and doing some exercise to wake up the body.
Lowering stress levels.

Good quality sleep and lowering stress will help to shift that belly bulge.

Looking forward to Tuesday 9th March when Lyn Miller will be presenting another live Webinar on Female Belly Fat After 40 and What the Doctors Don’t Tell You!

Pregnenolone Steal!

You may have heard of this and wondered what it even means.
Simply it is the very 1st adrenal hormone and it’s the precursor to most of our other hormones.
This includes Progestogens, and Estrogens plus androgens and a few others
The pregnenolone steal is a process where the majority of the pregnenolone that we produce on a daily basis is channelled into making cortisol.
This increase when we are under a lot more pressure (stress).
It happens most when we are in the Fight Flight (sympathetic nervous system) controlled by our central nervous system (CNS).

So, when we are having poor sleep, inflammation, poor diet, chronic illness, injury or pain issue, gut problems, physical and emotional stresses, trauma etc.
You understand that any stress is putting stress directly onto your hormonal situation.
When we reach the beautiful age of over 40 as women we become very stress reactive, adding fuel to the already burning fire.
Its important to identify the reasons for stress and recognise first that you are in a stressed state.
I know this is can be easier said than done.
For me I really didn’t realise how much stress I was in, until one day I woke up and the things I used to be able to do with ease, just caused me pain.
My running routine was thrown into chaos, and when I visited the doctor to find out why I felt so unwell?
To be told nothing was wrong!
When I knew that something was defiantly not right.
So, I did my best to find out what was causing my health to deteriorate so quickly.
After much research and dawning realisation that I had been just so stressed throughout the past 10 – 15 years.

I was totally in denial of what stress was.
It’s so important to stop and smell the roses, get rest, understand that it is not selfish to take time out.

In combination of with hormone testing to get to the root cause and knowing where your hormone levels actually are.

IMPLEMENTING CHANGE

When you are beginning to implement changes in your life to succeed to make yourself feel better, with food exercise etc

It is difficult for your friends and family to understand what you’re doing.

It is probably strange to them, about what the heck you are doing and WHY!

Its easy then to give in once they question your why?

Its easy to give in if you perceive you are being judged?

Begin to second guess that it’s the right thing for you to do for you!

In reality it is just them wanting understand you!

In the beginning after being diagnosed with Hashimotoes Hypothyroidism. It was very difficult.

I had to change my entire life, accommodate food changes, because of my gut health issues, increasing intolerances to food.
My social life, alcohol was toxic to my system.
I felt so sick sometimes after just one or two glasses.
The fatigue I dealt with on a daily basis was debilitating.

For me that was not worth putting myself through.

But others questioned my WHY!

My answer was this is MY normal, it is not your normal.
I am still the same person…
I will not judge you for your way of life.

I am taking care of me.

Because if I don’t I won’t have quality of life.
I won’t be able to the activities I love doing.

This is where I drew my line.

Was that selfish of me to think that?
Was I putting myself before everybody else?
Of course, it’s not selfish to take care of yourself.
Of course, you are putting yourself before everybody else!
These where important to ME!
To be happy and healthy.
For myself, for my family and for the future.

Who cared if I didn’t eat that sandwich?
Who would remember if I didn’t have a glass of beer tonight?

Only ME!

As long as I showed up as the same loving person…
As long as I didn’t change my personality.
Then that was good enough.

Because what I was changing was my HEALTH!

Everything you do, everything you eat, affects every organ of your body.

The body is so amazing, believe it or not, it can heal itself.

Our body naturally tries to detox itself every day.
When we are suffering from a toxic load in our body the detoxing doesn’t take place properly.

Do you have skin rashes, constipation, headaches, and bloating?

Our body is telling us that something is not quite right and if we keep doing what we are doing, we will never know true wellness.
Listen to your body, is it truly a "Treat" you are eating or is it causing far more harm?
There is no more time to be sitting on the fence when it comes to reducing the toxicity in our body and our environment.

We are slowly killing ourselves.
Our body is chocking under all the chemicals and toxic substances.

Taking steps each day to reduce our environment and be more conscious to live a sustainable life.

This is the perfect time to start.

An estimated 1 million Australian adults (5%) had type 2 diabetes in 2017–18, according to self-reported data from the ABS 2017–18 National Health Survey.

Information based on self-reported data only is likely to underestimate the prevalence of type 2 diabetes as many cases remain unreported, due to survey participants either not knowing or accurately reporting their diabetes status.

Around 17,400 people with type 2 diabetes began insulin treatment in 2017, equating to around 4,100 cases per 100,000 population.

• Incidence rates for insulin-treated type 2 diabetes were 1.5 times as high in females as males (5,100 compared with 3,300 per 100,000, respectively).
• Almost all cases of insulin-treated type 2 diabetes (92%) occurred among those aged 40 years and over.
(AIHW Gov.au)

These statistics, should make you sit up and take notice?
Alarming right!

Take a good look at your lifestyle, is this something that you might be struggling with now or into the near future?
Taking your health seriously and getting it back in control is really, quite simple.
Living more consciously & sustainable, to reduce your risks and prevention of getting these serious conditions
Hormones that are unbalanced have a huge impact on how you are feeling and on your body.
Getting your energy back, your future health, and a great quality of life.
The best outcome for everyone.

By living better with awareness comes empowerment.

Hormones are not all about the

Food we eat!
Exercise we do!
That time of Life!

It's also about the lifestyle we have lead for the past 40 or so years.

Our environment, the chemicals we are constantly surrounded by.

It's just that when we do get to the stage of life of Menopause our body has been through a lot.

With hormones changing we really feel the effects much more than any generation before us.

I love getting back to basics and living more consciously, about what is in my environment and how I can reduce the chemicals and toxins that surround us.

I know we cant eliminate them entirely but we can have better control of what we use.

Even to what I spray in my home grown garden veges.

This little recipe is a great addition to your own conscious living kit.

Rhubarb Leaf Insecticide Recipe:
Cut the stems off the leaves to use in cooking or other activities, and keep the leaves for your insecticide.
Once you’ve your rhubarb leaves, you’ll need to boil them in water. Try to keep a 1:3 ratio between the leaves and water.
For instance, if you’ve got a cup of rhubarb leaves, use three cups of water. Boil the leaves in a pot for about half an hour, and allow to cool.
Next, using a strainer, remove all the leaves from the pot. Add a little liquid dish detergent, and then pour the solution into a spray bottle. That’s all there is to it!
Once you’ve made the natural insecticide spray, begin spraying the various plants in your yard or garden. You might want to do this spraying in mid-morning or mid-afternoon so that it doesn’t evaporate too quickly. Over time, you should start to see that insects find your plants less attractive.

NOTE: Always TEST the spray in a small area to make sure the plant will not suffer any damage.

Gut and Hormone Health!

When your digestive system is running at its best.

Like in out 20 and 30’s with our hormones everything is in balance.

Over time damage begins to appear in our gut.

Becoming more intolerant to everyday foods that once had no affect all.

This is what happened to me.

Over time my gut just couldn’t tolerate so many foods.
I wasn’t able to absorb the nutrients I need to thrive.

It caused all sorts of other health issues, the big one was Hashimotoes Hypothyroidism Auto-immune.

Many women can get Coeliac disease of the intestines as well.

To start to heal was to eliminate a whole range of different foods.
My diet became very limited.

It didn’t matter though because I knew that’s just what I had to do to survive.

Turn my health back from ill to thriving.
My normal life was changed dramatically.
Family and friends struggled to understand as I still looked the same on the outside.

Meanwhile my gut was in a very bad way.

That was 8 years ago and I am able to add foods back.
I don’t have to be so rigid in my diet and nobody notices how I eat anymore.

My normal was not anyone else’s normal!

Its really important to listen to what your body is telling you.

Feeling tired and run down ALL the TIME.
More and more foods make you feel sick.
Headaches and migraines.
Not sleeping properly.

Once trouble starts in your gut, its like a squeaky wheel which suddenly needs your attention.

Other gut issues are irritable bowel syndrome, gastric reflux, upset stomach, constipation, diarrhoea, and excess gas.

The quality of water you consume will also affect your gut.
Know that all water is not equal, all those plastic bottles that leach chemicals into your body. Not to mention the cost to our planet.

When healing your gut this is an overlooked factor.

The first is food that we can physically notice.

We don’t however notice the damage water is causing our overall gut health.

Naturopath – Nathan is holding a water demonstration to show you exactly what the water is doing to our health.
The different qualities from different sources.

Link to register to join Naturopath Nathan, on Wednesday 20th Jan 7.30 AEST to show you how you can improve your hormones, how you feel and overall good health by consciously changing just one simple thing - your water!
