400 SENIOR GAMES | STEPHEN ‘DIRT’ GODDARD
400 games. 35 years. One club. A remarkable legacy.
This weekend, the Warrandyte Cricket Club celebrates an extraordinary milestone as Stephen ‘Dirt’ Goddard becomes just the third player in our club's history to reach 400 senior games.
Since making his senior debut in 1991, Dirt has been an incredible servant of the red and white, dedicating more than three decades to the club both on and off the field.
Across his remarkable career, Dirt has amassed 7,432 runs, taken 225 catches (the third most in club history) and claimed 31 wickets — although we're sure he'd argue he's been criminally underbowled!
A two-time premiership player (2016/17 and 2019/20), 2016/17 Steve Pascoe Medallist and Life Member #28, and a ‘world record’ scoring 92 of a team’s total of 110. Dirt's achievements on the field speak for themselves.
But perhaps Dirt's greatest contribution to our club has come away from the cricket field.
For countless years, Dirt has dedicated an enormous amount of his own time to being our club historian and stats man. His tireless work documenting, preserving and celebrating the history of the Warrandyte Cricket Club has ensured that generations of players, achievements and memories will never be forgotten.
It's a contribution that often happens quietly behind the scenes, but one that is absolutely invaluable to our club. We are forever grateful for the countless hours, passion and dedication Dirt has put into preserving the history of WCC.
Clubs like ours are built on people who give far more than they ever expect in return, and Dirt is a shining example of exactly that.
400 senior games is an achievement reserved for very few, but Dirt's legacy at Warrandyte extends well beyond the boundary.
On behalf of the entire Warrandyte Cricket Club, congratulations Dirt on this incredible milestone, and thank you for everything you have done, and continue to do, for our great club.
