🕊️ VALE ALISON (ALI) BIRCH 🕊️

Ali's impact on the Waroona Basketball Association spans decades. She began her basketball journey with the club as a junior in 1974 and dedicated an incredible 33 years to the game she loved.

As a player, Ali was renowned for her skill, determination and sportsmanship. Her achievements included multiple A Grade Women's Grand Final appearances, Most Valuable Player awards, Highest Goal Scorer titles, and representative honours at both Country Championships and in the WA Country Veterans State Team. Her talent on the court inspired teammates and competitors alike.

Beyond her playing career, Ali gave countless hours back to our Association. She coached junior girls and B Grade women, umpired whenever needed, and served on the committee in numerous roles, including President, Secretary, Treasurer, Recorder, Building Committee member and Fundraising Committee member. Her willingness to contribute wherever she was needed helped shape the strong community club we are today.

In recognition of her outstanding service and unwavering commitment, Ali was awarded Life Membership in 1995 and proudly served as Patron of our Association on multiple occasions.

Ali's legacy extends far beyond the awards she received. She will be remembered for her dedication, leadership, generosity and the lasting influence she had on generations of Waroona players, volunteers and families.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to John, Andrea, Murray, Graeme, extended family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As a mark of respect, a minute silence will be observed before each junior and senior game in the first round back.

May Ali rest in peace, but her legacy live on forever ❤️

On May 15th, we held our Annual General Meeting and would like to thank everyone who supported Waroona Basketball throughout a successful 70th Anniversary season. From our players, coaches, team managers and referees to our volunteers, sponsors and supporters, we couldn't do it without you !

A special thank you goes to Jessica Smith for her dedication as Association Secretary over the past two seasons. We are incredibly grateful for everything you've done for our club and wish you and your growing family all the very best as you prepare to welcome your little one 💕

Congratulations to our very own Association President Angelina on successfully completing her role as Campaign Coach for the Basketball WA Under 16 Country Girls State Team. What a great achievement !

Over the last 4 months, the experience provided valuable opportunities to work alongside other high-performance coaches, broaden her coaching knowledge, and further develop her skills in team management, player development, and game strategy ⭐️

Waroona Basketball Association celebrated its 70th anniversary in style on Saturday with a jam packed day of hoops and a chance to reflect on the club’s history.

Grand finals from under-12s to senior men’s and women’s played alongside the anniversary with close match-ups and high skill levels in all divisions.

Association president Angelina Dimasi was thrilled with the turnout, saying it was a “full circle moment” for a lot of people.

What a special moment celebrating the 70th anniversary of Waroona Basketball. From our early days on the outdoor courts at the town hall to where we are now, it’s been an amazing journey built on passion, dedication, and community spirit.
