🏆🏏 Announcing your Women's Cricketer of the Year... Chelsea Veney! 🎉

With an outstanding 498.5 points, Chelsea has truly shone this season!

Scoring 439 runs at an average of 109.75, including three half-centuries and a stellar high score of 83* in the Women's Maroons Semi-Final, she's been a force to reckon with!

Not to mention her 9 wickets at an average of 11.89, best bowling figures of 2/0, and 3 catches!

Chelsea's remarkable performance also helped propel our Women's Maroons to the Grand Final.

Congratulations, Chelsea! We're so proud of you and can't wait to see what next season has in store!

🏆 Club Person of The Year - Dave Absalom Award 🏆

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s prestigious Club Person of the Year, the Dave Absalom Award, has been awarded to Tori Ginn! 🌟

In a delightful twist, Tori was kept in the dark until the very moment Derek Lodge took the mic to make the big announcement. What a moment it was! 🎤

~ Derek’s Announcement ~

“I’d like to speak for a moment about our next award — the Club Person of the Year, the Dave Absalom Award.

Each year, this award recognises someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the club, often across many different areas. It’s not just about one role or one moment — it’s about consistent effort, commitment, and a genuine investment in the success of Warners Bay Cricket Club.

There are many past recipients with us here tonight, and you all know how special this recognition is.
This year, like every year, we’ve had a huge number of people contributing to the club. So to be singled out among so many dedicated volunteers and players means that something truly exceptional has been achieved.

I’ll admit — this award is always a hard secret to keep. But this year, it’s been especially difficult. In fact, we’ve had to go as far as creating a decoy… just to make sure the real winner didn’t figure it out while putting together the presentation you’re watching tonight.

Because the reality is — the person receiving this award has been at the centre of so much of what our club does.

The effort put in wasn’t occasional — it has been constant. Daily, even. From managing social media across multiple platforms for 17 teams each week, to the milestones, events and sponsors posts, building our new website, putting together this incredible 100-page slideshow, organising events like the trivia night, and volunteering wherever needed… the list genuinely goes on.

So much of what we’ve seen and enjoyed this season has been driven by this person’s time, energy, and care for the club.

And it gives me great pleasure — especially after all the effort to keep this quiet — to finally tell the truth.

🎉🏆 Exciting News! Introducing the Lifetime Service Award – The Steven Grimshaw Award! 🎖️✨

At Presentation Night, this special announcement was made by Derek Lodge on behalf of the WBCC executive committee.

~ Dereks Announcement ~

“It is my pleasure now to announce that this year we are introducing a new award to sit alongside our perpetual trophies.

This award has been created as the executive committee has sought to develop a deeper appreciation of the clubs history – recognising the contributions made both on and off the field, and acknowledging those that have helped shape the club into what it is today.

Clubs like ours don’t thrive by accident – they’re built by people who give their time, energy and passion year after year.

We have chosen to name this award after someone who truly embodies these values. We’d like to recognise him now, before announcing the inaugural recipient later in the evening.

This individual is a Life Member of the Club and for more than 30 years has made an outstanding contribution to its success. He has served on committees, held the role of President, captained our top sides, and mentored countless players coming through the ranks. He has also been a curator and a driving force in keeping people involved in this great game, leading the Masters team for many years.

I am, of course, talking about Steven Grimshaw.

Please join me in welcoming him up to say a few words, as we unveil for the first time, the Steven Grimshaw WBCC Lifetime Service Award”

When calling up Steven Grimshaw to present this prestigious new award later in the night, the tables turned as Derek revealed the first recipient was none other than Steven Grimshaw himself! 👏🎉

Congratulations, Steven! Your dedication, passion, and commitment to WBCC have left an undeniable mark, and we couldn't be prouder to honour you with an award that bears your name.
