MATT GODENZI /// 250

Warburton – Millgrove FNC Player, Matt Godenzi, plays his 250th Senior Club game this week. This wonderful achievement earns him the honour of being awarded Life Membership of the Burras.

Matt started his playing career at the Yarra Junction Junior F.C., coming through all the age groups.

He played his first Club Game in Round 1 2005, in the Under 18s against Olinda Ferny Creek, which was a victory for the Burras. While still in the Under 18s, Matt played his first Senior Club game in the Firsts on July 8th 2006 against Emerald, which the Burras won by a massive 213 points. He played 37 games in the Under 18s.

In 2012 his leadership qualities were rewarded by being appointed Reserves Captain, a position he held till 2016. He was Co- Captain with Jackson Jones in 2014 and Nicholas Toy in 2016.

In 2007 he played in the Reserves Premiership Side which defeated Monbulk by 41 points. He followed this up by being a member of the recently undefeated 2022 Reserves Premiership side which defeated Kinglake and the 2023 Reserves Premiership side which defeated Powelltown.

Matt was Co- Coach of the 2023 Reserves Premiership side with Tom Kelly and has continued to coach the Reserves side since.

He has played in a variety of positions but mainly in defence, regularly taking on the opposition’s key players and has received several club awards. Matt has finished in the top 5 in the Reserves Club Best & Fairest four times.

Matt’s loyalty to the Burras has been outstanding as he always gives 100% out on the field in whatever role he plays. Everything he does both on and off the field and at training is performed with great determination and enthusiasm. He has been a wonderful club person taking on such roles as Bar Manager and helped organise Social functions and other fund-raising events including the ‘Day on the Hill’.

Matt and his lovely wife, Courtney, are proud parents to their handsome son, Macklin, and their beautiful daughter, Ruby. They look forward to seeing them both possibly grow up within the Burras Nest in the future.

Courtney plays Netball for the Burras and has also been a wonderful club person. She played her 150th Game of Netball for the club in the 2022 D Grade Grand Final to help the Burras win the D Grade Premiership by defeating Powelltown. Courtney followed this up by being awarded the Best on Court Medal in the 2023 Grand Final again defeating Powelltown. She has currently played 177 Netball Games.

The Warburton- Millgrove Football/ Netball Club is extremely proud of Matt’s contribution to our club and wishes him all the very best for the future as he strives to achieve the ultimate club success for his mates. He has played a huge part in the ongoing development of the wonderful culture at the club.

ZAYDEN CRUNDEN /// 50 GAMES

Congrats to Zayden Crunden, who plays his 50th game for the club.

Zayden joined the Burras in 2022 from Wesburn Juniors. He played the season in the Under-18s and was an important part of the team, going on to win the Under-18s premiership against Kinglake that same year. In 2023, he began his journey in the Reserves and has continued to play ever since, developing his skills and showing consistent improvement. Zayden has had an excellent year this season, spending time in the ruck and playing some impressive, strong footy.

We cannot wait to see Zayden continue his footy journey!
