In memory of Private Benjamin Chuck, Private Timothy Aplin and Private Scott Palmer, all from the Sydney based 2nd Commando Regiment. In the early hours on the 21st of June 2010, members from “November Platoon” were up and ready to go on a mission to Hajian in Kandahar province. Four Blackhawks lifted off and sped south on target, around 5 minutes away from the Landing Zone, the lead Blackhawk was lowering to land and crashed while traveling at over 200km/per hour and burst into flames. Private Aplin and Private Palmer were killed instantly and eight other Australian’s were severely wounded. Private Chuck was among the wounded, but sadly died while being evacuated to the field hospital in Kandahar. Private Timothy Aplin was aged 38, a loving husband to Natasha and father to Ty, Shinae, Josie and Daniel. Private Aplin was on his second deployment in Afghanistan, having previously deployed to Iraq in 2003, and East-Timor in 2000. Private Chuck was aged 27 and on his third deployment in Afghanistan. Private Palmer was aged 27 and also on his third deployment in Afghanistan, having previously deployed to Iraq in 2005 and East-Timor in 2003 and 2007. Our thoughts are with all three families and friends today.
Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
