Meet Noela.
Noela has been a familiar face around the centre and in Aqua classes for 15 years. Her favourite part of being a member is the human beings.
She loves the diversity of the centre and the sense of community, highlighting how happy it makes her to see young ones learning to swim and older adults enjoying Aqua with her.
As a child, Noela had a frightening close call in the water. Today, she feels proud to be able to face her uncertainties and continue to show up to classes each week.
Aqua is her favourite way to stay active. It uses the whole body, she enjoys the flow of the classes and, finds it easier to challenge herself in the water than in the gym.
If you know Noela, you’ll know she always has a joke ready to share. After class, she’s often in the cafe chatting with the team and other members. Her order is a very very very very very hot Cappuccino with one sugar, which she says is spot on every time.
For Noela, the staff are an important part of the WSAC community. They are warm and welcoming and feel like family.
She loves to catch up with friends after classes and meet new people. She says the older she gets, the more she enjoys talking to strangers and hearing their stories. Everyone accepts her for who she is.
For anyone thinking about coming to WSAC, her advice is:
"You’re mad if you don’t, it’s only good for you. Try it once and see what works for you. If you don't like it, that's okay, but at least you've had a go. There are so many things available for what your body might need.”
And of course, Noela has shared a joke for everyone:
“What do you call two boys sitting on top of the window? Curt and rod.”
Making people laugh and bringing a little fun to people's lives is one of Noelas favourite things.
