Sunday Report
Club Championship – Round Two
Round Two of the Club Championship rolled in under semi overcast skies — the kind of weather where you squint at the clouds and think, “Go on then, just rain a little… we dare you.” The course, of course, looked magnificent again. At this point it’s showing more consistency than most of our swings. And Huey, if you’re listening, a bit of mid week precipitation wouldn’t go astray. We don’t want it on Sundays — we are fair weather golfers— but a little top up would be appreciated.
An excellent turnout of 13 players, including three of the BlazeAid crew who are in town helping rebuild fences after the summer fires. Absolute top people, great company, and very welcome anytime. Because it was a Championship round, the BlazeAid crew ran their own mini comp — and they took it very seriously… right up until the VAG Award reappeared.
Yes, the legendary VAG (Very Average Golfer) Award was dusted off and reactivated, and Terry had the honour of claiming it. His prize? Eternal glory and the option to drink from Crundle’s old night pot. Whether that’s a reward or a punishment is still up for debate.
In a technological leap forward, about half the field used the Golf Australia mobile scoring app. The other half — affectionately known as Fred, Barney, and the rest of the Flintstone/Rubble clan — are still adjusting to the idea that a phone can do more than make calls. Once we get them across the line, we’ll be fully digitised and possibly even dangerous.
Results
Stroke Play
• Gross Winner: Hayden with an 88 — leading from the front and reminding us why he’s Captain.
• Runner Up Gross: Wal on 92, keeping the pressure on.
• Nett Winner: Tony with a tidy 72.
• Runner Up Nett: Hayden again, this time with a 74.
• Ladies: Jen led the way with a Gross 105 and a Nett 74 — steady, reliable, and quietly efficient.
Stableford
It was a “House of Hay” quinella, proving once again that the Hay household is a dangerous place to challenge anyone to anything involving a golf club.
• 1st: Tony on 34 points
• 2nd: Jen on 33 points
• NTP: Jen on the 3rd.

Thursday Troopies — The Return of the Boys
A cracking turnout for the Thursday Troopies with 10 starters, which is already impressive… but even better when two long lost wanderers finally found their way back to the club.
First up, Kenboy Tooley, who has been gallivanting around the Albury scene like some sort of golfing backpacker, has returned to God’s Country for a bit of fishing, a bit of golf, and probably a bit of avoiding chores at home.
And then there’s T rev, rolling in with two brand new knees and a bank account that’s still in therapy. The good news? He now joins the elite, highly exclusive, very prestigious club of ‘Old Stagers with Shiny Knees’.
Even better, he completes the legendary duo: Trevor Goodly and Trevor Badly — both with two knee replacements. No prizes for guessing which Trevor is which. None. Zero. Don’t even try.
As for Goodly’s golf… well… let’s just say the new knees have changed his shot shape. He used to slice. Now he hooks. And he managed a mighty 8 points in 9 holes. The comeback journey may take a while — pack snacks.
Meanwhile, among the people who can actually play golf:
• Phil took the win with 33 points
• Jen followed with a tidy 31 points
And in the 9 holer division:
• Jackie won on a countback with 16 points
• Ken was right behind her, proving the sabbatical didn’t completely ruin him.

Sunday Report
Post AGM Championship Round
Fresh off the AGM (where at least three people pretended to understand the financial report), the crew marched out for Round One of the Club Championship. And just to keep everyone honest, we dusted off the ancient, slightly sadistic version of golf: Stroke play. Yes… that one.
Conditions were perfect — clearish skies, smooth fairways, zero excuses — and yet the scores were… let’s call them “politely disappointing”. To translate into Stableford for the mathematically challenged: only two players even sniffed the 30s. The rest of the field apparently decided to take the scenic route.
On the Gross side, Wal and Paul are out in front with matching 96s, proving consistency is key, even if that consistency is… well… 96. On Net, Paul leads with a tidy 71, followed by Wal on 79, who is clearly pacing himself.
In the Ladies field, Jen is showing everyone how it’s done with a Gross 105 and a Net 74 — solid stuff.
Now before anyone starts drafting their resignation letter from golf, remember: the Club uses the Meatloaf Rule — Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad. This was only Round One. You’ve still got two more cracks at glory, redemption, or at least producing a card you’re willing to hand in without apologising.
Chins up, clubs up — let’s go!

Sunday Report
Just a very quick report this week as I’m running a little late.
Captain Hayden finally returned from his South Australian “adventure,” and let’s just say the clubs were swinging but the rust was definitely showing. Happens to the best of us after a few weeks of beer, oysters, and questionable decision making.
We also welcomed a visitor, Grant — a BlazeAid volunteer who clearly knows which end of the club to hold. Off an eleven handicap he punched out a tidy 30 points, which is a bit rude for a visitor, but we’ll allow it.
But the day belonged to Paul, who snuck in with 33 points and pinched the win on a countback from Tony “The Extraordinaire”. Tony took the loss with grace, dignity, and only mild muttering.
No NTPs this week. Apparently everyone decided the scrapes were a no go!!
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
The Club Championship starts on 17th May. As with previous years it will be played over three nominated rounds and the best two scores will count. Yes, you can play just two rounds if circumstances dictate.
For the Ladies, they will play with the men on a Sunday, however, if this can’t be managed, the individual can play the FOLLOWING Thursday morning competition and submit that score.

Thursday Troopies — Fashion Crimes & Golf Edition
The Thursday Troopies bravely took on the elements and, against all odds, actually did a pretty decent job. The weather gods had threatened doom, gloom, and really cold, but instead delivered something closer to “cool with a hint of sunshine” — basically a Victorian summer.
Mother Teresa (the golfing one, not the saintly one) took out the day with 30 points, with Jackie hot on her heels with 29 and the NTP on the 3rd. The rest of the field was made up of the mere males, who did their best to keep up and mostly succeeded in not embarrassing themselves.
And then… there was Tony, our Greenkeeper Extraordinaire.
Most people dress for the conditions. Tony, however, dresses for all conditions simultaneously.
From the belt up: full winter mode. From the belt down: Bali holiday, poolside cocktail, SPF 50 optional.
After extensive research (and by research, we mean gossip), it turns out Tony wasn’t confused by the weather at all — he was simply on his way to Collingwood for his membership IQ test and was told to “dress appropriately.” Say no more.

Sunday Report

What a day Sunday turned out to be. With rain in the forecast and the Women’s High Tea luring half the district to Jingellic, numbers were a little light-on. But the true diehards showed up — the sort of people who’d play golf during a cyclone if the pies were warm.
They battled through the first nine holes before “retiring to the Clubhouse as the rain came down.” That’s the official version. The unofficial version? The smell of hot pies and the promise of a cold beer proved far more dangerous than any weather system.
After an early lunch (and possibly a second lunch for some), the competition kicked off again and — in a miracle of timing — wrapped up just before the rain made its grand return. Outstanding commitment all round.
Well played, team. The weather tried, but it never stood a chance.
MotherTeresa was the winner on the day with 35 points. Second place went to Paul on a countback from Tony. No NTP’s were reported, however several nearest the Bar did!!!!

Sunday Report

Last week’s report opened with: “What a cracking day for golf! Sunshine, smooth fairways, and scores so good that only one poor soul dipped under 30 points.” Well… today was exactly the same. Clearly the weather gods have decided we’ve worthy enough and the scores reflected that.
We had a solid turnout with 12 starters, including Crundle and the newly refurbished, double kneed, nine months off the-tools T rev. Considering regulars Hayden, Tor and Jen were all away, the numbers were downright impressive. Apparently, absence really does make the heart grow fonder — or at least makes people show up.
The only drama of the day? A missing hot pie. After a full scale investigation, several interrogations, and a search effort that would’ve made SES proud, the culprit was found… sitting quietly in the pie warmer. Yes, folks — this is where we’re at in life.
On the scoring front, Wal took the chocolates with 34 points, closely followed by Paul on 33. Dave snagged NTP on the 6th, and Ted claimed the honours on the 3rd.
Another good day, another good laugh, and — most importantly — all pies accounted for.

Below is some very positive feedback from one of our visitors last weekend.

Thanks Michael. That is great to hear. We are proud of what we have for a small community course maintained by volunteers. Hope you return with others at some stage.
CheersHayden

Subject: Re: Golf booking
Hayden just wanted to thank you for the chance to play Walwa. It's a really nice course, I usually play at Corryong, had no idea there was something this good half an hour away. My friend from NZ were also very impressed. RegardsMike

Sunday Report

What a cracking day for golf! Sunshine, smooth fairways, and scores so good that only one poor soul dipped under 30 points. The rest of you clearly brought your A game.
Meanwhile, Captain Hayden has been “touring” the south west corner of South Australia — which, let’s be honest, translates to drinking beers and inhaling Coffin Bay oysters. Tough gig.
In his absence, our fearless Prez, Tor “Rocky” Haugen, stepped in to run the show. And in a twist that shocked absolutely no one… he won! Rocky posted a mighty 40 points, proving once again that power really does corrupt — especially on the scorecard.
Jen wasn’t far behind, taking second place with a classy 37 points and snagging NTP for good measure. Nicely done.
