Our Club has Members that are older adults (over 65), juniors (under 18), people with disabilities (wheelchair users), LGBTQIA+ members (including one who just made a new WA air pistol record!) and members from the CALD community. Two Members who started as juniors, now in their early 20s, are in the National Pathways squad; this can lead to Olympic or Commonwealth Games selection.
These proposed new laws have the potential to have a snowball effect that may stop all this
Shooting sports are one of the most inclusive of all sports. One of the athletes who is a wheelchair user recently completed successfully at the National level, beating most able bodied athletes.
Excluding police shootings, Australia has an extremely low level of gun violence. These new laws are a cynical ploy to distract people from the significant policy failures of the Government. They seek to show that the Government is making good policy decisions for community safety. Whereas in fact, it is unlikely they will have any effect except to make it more difficult for disadvantaged groups to access one of the most truly inclusive sports.
