j24brz_ just beat our old SMSP NA lap record.
We held that time for two years, and with the car being turbo now, I always knew eventually someone would come along and take it.
What I didn’t expect was the message that came after.
I’d never really spoken to j24brz_ before. We’d only just followed each other, and I had no idea he’d been watching what I was doing with the car.
Then he tells me a lot of his build was inspired by my old NA setup. The Accusump, the data, the direction of the car, all the little things I used to post about.
That honestly means more to me than the record ever did.
If something I shared helped someone build their car, gave them confidence to take it to the track, or helped point them in the right direction, then that’s a pretty cool thing to hear.
I’ve always shared the parts, setup, data, mistakes, failures and the things that worked because I’ve always believed that knowledge should keep moving.
A lot of people have helped me over the years, and I’ve always wanted to do the same for the next person coming through.
There are two ways you can react when someone comes after something you’ve achieved.
You can get defensive. Tell them they’re not good enough, remind them what you’ve done and try to protect your little piece of territory.
Or you can shake their hand, congratulate them and be genuinely happy that they pushed it further.
I know which side of motorsport I want to be part of.
Records are supposed to be broken.
And if the person who finally broke ours did it with a little bit of inspiration from what I had shared along the way, then I couldn’t really ask for a better way for that chapter to end.
I’m proud of what we did with that NA car.
But I’m even prouder knowing it inspired someone else to go and do their own thing with it.
