No one starts knowing what they’re doing. 🥋

Every person you see training was once standing on the edge of the mats, wondering what that first class would be like.

This week, we welcomed our very first adult students to Rockingham BJJ | The Lighthouse. Some had trained before, but many were stepping onto the mats for the first time. They all had one thing in common: they showed up.

If you’ve been thinking about trying Jiu Jitsu but keep putting it off, you’re not alone. You don’t need to get fit first, and you definitely don’t need any experience. Just come as you are.

We’re only just getting started, and it’s been incredible to see this community begin to grow. We’d love for you to be part of it.

Every academy has a moment where it stops feeling like an idea... and starts feeling real.

Today was that moment.

We’ve rolled out the mats, the heart of every Jiu Jitsu academy. It’s one more big step towards opening our doors and welcoming our community.

There are still a few finishing touches to complete over the coming days, but our soft opening will be on Monday, 27 July.

It’s been incredible watching Rockingham BJJ | The Lighthouse come to life, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

The countdown is on!

One step closer.

Our mats have arrived, and for the first time... it really feels like The Lighthouse has become more than just an idea.

There are still a few finishing touches ahead of us, but seeing our kids already running around the academy reminds us exactly why we started this journey.

This has always been about more than building a martial arts academy.

It’s about creating a place where people feel welcome, families grow together, confidence is built, and lifelong friendships begin.

We’re so close now.

Our uniforms have officially arrived! It’s amazing how opening a few boxes can make everything feel that little bit more real.

Every gi in these cartons represents someone who’s about to begin a new journey, whether it’s building confidence, making friends, learning a new skill, or simply finding a place where they belong.

Over the past week we’ve watched our Tier 1 Founding Memberships completely sell out, and the support from our local community has honestly been overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who’s trusted us to be part of your family’s journey.

Now we’re turning our attention to the final preparations. If everything goes to plan, we’re hoping to welcome our very first members through the doors with a soft opening next Friday.

There are still a limited number of Tier 2 Founding Memberships available for both kids and adults, so if you’ve been thinking about joining, now is the perfect time.

We’re getting closer every day, and we can’t wait to welcome our founding members onto the mats.

You may have noticed there are four waves in our logo.

The numbers weren’t chosen at random.

Each wave represents a belt in the Jiu Jitsu journey, white, blue, purple and brown, all leading toward the black belt represented by the lighthouse itself.

We wanted to build something that reflected an idea we strongly believe in:

Every belt matters.

The black belt often gets the attention, but the journey is where people really grow. Confidence is built at white belt. Resilience is built through setbacks. Friendships are built over years of showing up.

Every stage teaches something different.

Because Jiu Jitsu isn’t just about reaching the destination.

It’s about who you become along the way.

When we started creating our academy, we knew we wanted something different.

A lot of martial arts branding naturally leans toward being tough, aggressive and fight-focused. There is nothing wrong with that, but it didn’t feel like us or the kind of community we wanted to build.

We wanted something that reflected guidance.

A lighthouse felt perfect.

A lighthouse helps guide people through uncertainty and helps them find their way, and we felt that represented what coaching should be.

Coaches are meant to guide, support and help bring out the best in people.

We want Rockingham BJJ Academy | The Lighthouse to be a place where people feel supported through their own journey, on and off the mats.

WAIKIKI — WE’RE OPENING THIS JULY!!!

The empty space is starting to become something real.

Rockingham BJJ Academy | The Lighthouse is opening this July in Waikiki, and we’re creating a place where people can learn, challenge themselves, and feel like they belong from the moment they walk through the door.

Whether it’s a child trying their first class, a teenager finding their place, or an adult stepping onto the mats for the first time, we want training to feel supportive, welcoming, and something you actually look forward to being part of each week.

• Parent Child Classes (2+ yrs)
• Little Kids BJJ (3–5 yrs)
