Meet the newest (and quirkiest) member of my literacy support team — He’s got wild hair, a curious stare, and a knack for making nervous readers giggle.

At my desk, learning doesn’t have to feel scary. Many of the children I work with experience reading anxiety — that tight feeling in the tummy when letters feel like a puzzle that doesn’t make sense. That’s why we use gentle humour, playful characters, and a big dose of creativity to build confidence step by step.

Whether it's decoding tricky words or just making it through a sentence, we are here to cheer your child on — one sound, syllable, and smile at a time. 💛

Hot tips for Teachers and Parents of students with learning difficulties!

You have started remedial intervention with a Specialist Teacher… what next?

Hot Tip # 1 Learning for mastery

Research and class practice supports that students with learning difficulties need to over learn a skill. This means spaced practice through the week. Do a little often. Revision, revision, revision - new brain pathways will be made with lots of repetition!

You don’t get to be great at anything without lots of effort to build those muscles needed – and reading and writing is no different!

A little done often is the key. Aim for 10-15 mins 3 days a week. Set a timer – aim for good work done well and then give a reward!

One thing we know for sure…
Doing a little often is best!
And if it’s not working – talk to your teacher!

Students require multiple repetitions—between 6 and 20—when learning new material. (Rott, 1999; Waring & Takaki, 2003).

The end of another year approaches quicker than ever it seems! All existing students should have received the new timetable for 2018. We just have a little fine tuning happening to accommodate busy students! With the new schedule there are 3 available spaces, but with 2 new student interviews this week they may not last long!
I am very thankful to all my continuing families - several for the 2nd or 3rd year! It has been a joy and a privilege to share your learning journeys; each week seeing the growth the successes as my students grow in confidence, self esteem, writing fluency and reading enthusiasm! Thank you all, and I am looking forward to our last time together next week- there is a little reward! 😁 I’d better get the desk tidied now, it’s a mess! xo Linda
