Congratulations to Rachel Wolfenden, our Club Female Singles Champion. Today she won a hard fought Champ of Champ singles final at PEBC today against Bridgett Day.

Congratulations to Greg Davis our Men's Singles Champion who played in the Champion of Champions last Sunday defeating Barry Webb from Myponga, Brenton Roberts from Strathalbyn, led 20/13 against David Madden from Yankalilla only to lose by the smallest of margins - so close to making the final was a great effort.

Premiers!
In a very rare double, Victor ‘Sea Eagles’ have been crowned premiers in both the Division 1 competitions for Thursday Women’s pennants and Saturday Open pennants. The ‘icing on the cake’ was the win to Div 3 Blue as well. A great day for the club and reward for the many hard workers, selectors and players.
Saturday Open Pennants Grand Finals
Div 1 Blue came up against Port Elliot. In a close and exciting contest all day it came down to the last bowls. The completed rinks had Bill Nash up five and Nik Pippos down ten, but Rachel Wolfenden’s rink was up six on the last end giving Victor a one-shot buffer. However, Port Elliot held one shot in the head meaning a potential draw was ‘on the cards’. With Rachel Wlofenden’s last bowl she moved Port Elliot’s shot bowl enough to give Victor two shots, and a three-shot win overall. This grand final series has been incredibly close. Victor got up by one shot against McLaren Vale in the semi-final, Port Elliot defeated McLaren Vale by three shots in the preliminary final, and Victor won the grand final by three shots. Often it was decided by the last bowls of the day.
Div 3 Blue played Milang and cruised to a twelve-shot win overall. The rinks of Ian Brown and Ian Sellars combined well to give Victor a strong buffer, and Chris Pitman’s rink kept losses to a minimum. A well-deserved win for this team which has been consistent all season. Unfortunately, Div 4 was the team to miss out. Dan Hassell’s rink had a very good win, Darryl Keane’s rink was competitive all day, but Ken Collinson’s rink met a very strong EB rink and was outplayed. Players have done really well to get this team into the grand final from fourth on the ladder at the end of the minor round.
Women’s Pennants Grand Finals
Div 1 Blue played Port Elliot at Strathalbyn. Players were ecstatic to come through with a convincing 13-shot win with two rinks up. Rachel Wolfenden’s rink played strongly to finish up by seventeen shots, Joy Fuller had a tough battle but won by three shots. Lyn Thatcher’s rink lost by seven but prevented any ‘blow-out’ to ensure a win for Victor. Congratulations, and well done to all the ladies representing Victor over the year.
Div 3 Blue was also in the grand final, but players were unable to match the strong Myponga team and lost by fourteen shots. Meredith Reid’s rink bowled well to win by three shots, but Val Secomb’s rink found the opposition just too good on the day. Nevertheless, this team can feel well pleased with making a grand final.

Bob Vowles Day
A pleasing number of teams turned up for Bob Vowles ‘Blue’ day for prostate cancer. Jamie Norman from Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia was in attendance to give insight on this disease. South Coast Sand and Civil also sponsored the day. Winners of the day were locals Fred Kelly, Bronwen Mullen, Bob Vowels, and Ebba Ness on 107+39. Not far behind, and in second place, was a team from Willunga – Steve Davidson, Ady Stoekel, Don Schumann, and Wayne Gibson on 106+28. Third went to a Yankalilla team of Craig Bartlett, Gary Campbell, Peter Mansell, and John Carroll on 105+23. An enjoyable day for all was further improved with excellent catering provided by many Victor members.
Night Owls
The final night of the Night Owls competition Premiership rounds was a resounding success, staged a shortened two-game format that kept the players engaged from start to finish. The team of the Power topped the night game, narrowly ahead of the Coasters, with the Night Rollers close behind in third place. Following the games, Victor Harbor Bowls Club President Dennis Williams led the main year-end presentation. In Division 2, the Islanders claimed top honors with a steady, consistent campaign throughout the season. In Division 1, Snoozers finished in third place, followed by the always challenging Power in second. Taking out first prize money and the annual Trophy was the almost undefeated squad of Up-N-Back, capping off a dominant season. The Victor Bowls Club is looking forward to seeing all Night Owlers back on October 15th to register for the new season 26/27.

In a nail biting finish to the Div 1 Grand Final VHBC won the day on the last end. Rachel Wolfenden played a major part in that victory with a magnificent draw bowl on the last end that replaced the Opposition's shot bowl. An Umpires Measure was needed to decide the game.
Div 3 had a very good win to also take out the Title. Div 4 were galant in defeat.
With a Div 1 win for the Ladies our Club has had a very good year. 🤩🤩

Photos will follow.

VHBC Report Sunday March 16th, 2026
It’s a big week for the Victor Harbor Bowling Club with five teams in the Pennant grand finals and Presentation Night occurring at the club after the finals on Saturday evening.
Crack-the-Jack
Another season of Crack the Jack has come to an end, with 16 teams taking to the green for a great morning of competition. The Best Two Game Winners, decided on percentage, were Fred Kelly and Ebba Ness with a score of 54 +9. Third place went to Rob and Denise Tidswell with 55 +7. Second place was Neville and Judy Woolcock with 55 +9. The overall winners for the day, winning all three games, were Danny and Eileen Wreford with an impressive score of 77 +20. A special mention also goes to our ‘Chase the Toucher’ winners Neville Woolcock and Marie Cannon, who each received a box of chocolates for their amazing efforts. Congratulations to all our winners. Prizes were presented by James from RAA, our generous sponsors for the day.
Night Owls
This week marked the final round of Night Owls competition for Premiership points, featuring the top two teams facing off and the others across the table. The results showcased the ongoing form of the Night Owls competition of the leading sides. Snoozers emerged in first place after a strong showing against well-performing Coasters, signaling their continued dominance as the round wrapped up. Granite clinched second spot with a solid performance against the up-and-coming Charlies Angels, keeping pressure on the leaders. The battle for third ended in a draw, with Bubbly Bowlers sharing the prize money with a team from Victoria, Ocean Grove, reflecting a competitive and tightly contested round. Overall, the results demonstrated that the top teams remained in good form as the Premiership table shuffled toward its final standings, while mid-table sides showed they can challenge the leaders on any given night.
100-up finals
Two very entertaining games of 100-up were played last Friday. Both games were wind-affected but some of the heads were extremely close. The women’s match was between Rachel Wolfenden and Lyn Thatcher, and Lyn got away strongly. Rachel could never quite bridge the gap, and Lyn ran out a comfortable winner. In the men’s match-up Ben Wolfenden was up against the consistent Ken Waller. Ben got away early and built a lead, but Ken came back strongly to make this match very even. Eventually Ken prevailed, winning 101-99 in an enthralling contest. Congratulations to all four players.
Women’s Pennants
Two sides have made the grand finals to be played at Strathalbyn on Thursday. Div 1 Blue will be playing Port Elliot, and Div 3 Blue will be playing Myponga. We wish the ladies every success.
Saturday Pennants
Two teams were involved in preliminary finals played last Saturday. Div 4 played Strathalbyn at Willunga and got over the line by the narrowest of margins – one shot! Ken Collinson’s rink had a tough battle all day before losing by a single shot. The other two rinks were wildly different. Dan Hassell’s rink could not get going and had to concede a sixteen-shot loss. However, Darryl Keane’s rink kept building a lead to eventually win by eighteen shots and carry the team to that one-shot win and a spot in the grand final. Div 6 White played McLaren Vale at Willunga and, despite being competitive and in the contest all day, went down by six shots overall. Jan Pippos down two and Robert Tidswell down by four.
In addition to the two teams playing in the women’s grand finals, Victor ‘Sea Eagles’ have gone into grand final week with three Saturday teams – Div 1 Blue, Div 3 Blue, and Div 4 involved. In the finals at Goolwa, Div 1 Blue play Port Elliot, Div 3 Blue play Milang, and Div 4 play Encounter Bay.
Good bowling and ‘best of luck’ to all those teams!
