What an amazing weekend with the Victor Harbor SA Masters Games being held at our club. It was a great success and we met a host of fantastic athletes ranging from 32 to 96!
There are so many people to thank who helped out over the 3 days. Thanks to Kerry and Grant from Victor Harbor Primary School for allowing us to host athletics over the weekend and getting the grounds and canteen ready to go. Thanks to Steve Rogers, Eliza Higgins, Pam and David Oddie (from Mt Barker Athletics) and Ethan Smith for all their help at events on Saturday. Steve also helped get the club ready for hosting and did a fantastic job fixing up our long jump pit. Many thanks to our Club Person of the Year - John Rogerson (Java John) who was an athlete as well as Coffee Person Extraordinaire! Thanks to Sarah and my Mum (Marg Bedford) who ran the canteen over the weekend. Thanks to Gordon and Ailie Scott who helped out with events in between soccer commitments. Thanks to Lexi Bruce for helping out at events on Saturday and Sunday as well as my Dad (Tony Bedford) who came out on Sunday and raked pits, retrieved discus and helped at finish lines. Thanks to 2 of my besties that I pulled out of athletic retirement to give us an experienced hand on the weekend - Laura Gane and Peta Haldane. Thanks to my sister Susan Baxter for compiling results and helping with medals over the 2 days, and my brother-in-law Rob Baxter for his photography skills on Sunday (almost got taken out by a discus or two!). Thanks to some wonderful Masters Athletes who assisted at events while competing, and some of their partners also. Thanks to my oldest son Alex for helping me set up, pack up and officiate over the 3 days. A big thank you to Shirley Wright - our medical/sports trainer/coach extraordinaire. She helped me so much with great advice on how to run the weekend and bought down special Masters equipment from Adelaide that we needed. An extra special thank you to our President - Louise Scott - for help with preparation for the event, making food, shopping, picking up medals, helping at events, packing up and everything else (all while battling illness!). Thank you, thank you, thank you - especially if I missed anyone but I am exhausted! (If you head over to the SA Masters Athletics page youβll see some great photos from the weekend).
