Ignite your Tapas! The third niyama teaches us to find discipline and willingness to follow through with our actions to have the life we aspire to. Whether this is by implementing boundaries and saying no to things that drain our energy or following through with a daily self care ritual, regular exercise or nourishing food, this all requires discipline and consistency for it to make a difference in our lives.

Put it in context with your yoga practice. There are days when you don’t feel like getting on the mat but you know that even a little effort makes you feel better and sets you up for the day. So you roll out your mat, sit for 5 minutes following your breath, stretch the neck and warm up the spine. It wasn’t long but the effort was made and you feel better for it.

Once the fire is lit, it continues to slowly burn 🔥

Come light your inner fire in yin yoga Thursday night. The fire is on in the yurt but you’ll soon be warm!!

Aparigraha, the final yama teaches us the art of letting go. As Autumn leaves fall and return to the earth, we too learn to let go of holding on to thoughts, emotions, possessions and tension.

Autumn connects us to the yin yang pairing of the Lungs and large intestine. The first draws in the air and the latter gets rid of the waste. Nature reflects what is needed through our body at this time.

When unbalanced the lungs hold our grief but as the air cycles through the body and is transformed so can our grief be transformed into gratitude through time and rest.

🍂 are you able to let go of circling thoughts, clutter, unnecessary work?
🍂 do you allow yourself to feel sadness and grieve when needed?

Let Autumn be your time to shed and let go, to move into Winter unburdened, ready for rest.

Exploring all this and more in yin yoga this week.

Brahmacharya - moderation

Literally, means connecting with the divine.

Historically this was done through the preservation of energy through celibacy. In today’s world this means moderating and concentrating our energy by building our inner vitality and in doing so committing to our spiritual path and finding oneness with the divine.

We can do this by
💫 sitting quietly and gathering energy through our breath
💫 concentrate on your thoughts and become aware of where in your life energy is drained or where it is strengthened
💫 connecting with our own energy changes and soul needs leads to a more personal connection with the divine

Off the mat this week, consider how you use your inner resources. Does your energy drain or replenish in your thoughts, actions and relationships?

Asteya is the practice of non stealing but the third yama has more subtle definitions.

🍂taking from yourself: energy, breath, lack of self care, comparing to others
🍂taking from others: time, ideas, possessions
🍂taking from the earth’s resources through waste or overuse

Yin is a practice of giving back to ourselves of not stealingour time, energy or breath. It’s asks us to not move beyond our limitations, to breathe completely and practice self care, allowing ourselves to be fully in the present moment.

Satya - honesty or truthfulness

Exploring the second yama this Thursday in yin.
Satya means honesty or truthfulness with our words, thoughts and actions. Yin asks us to be honest with our bodies and how far to go in a shape on the mat. Off the mat this yama asks us to be sincere and authentic so that our actions line up with our values.

Satya is a heart practice asking us to be brave and be honest with what we are doing with our lives, who we are and our intentions.
