Deepwater Dragon Boat Club from the Central Coast are in Urunga again for the weekend and as they have for past 8 or so years they swapped their paddles for mallets for an afternoon of croquet.

It is interesting to watch 4 games of GC on one lawn at the same time - just as well we still have a couple of third colour sets to use.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon even though the rain never really let up and they kept going until they found a winning doubles combination.

We should invite them back more often as they have broken the drought for the last couple of years!!!

Hopefully they have just as much fun at the regatta this weekend and we look forward to hosting them again in the future.

The weather cleared for a few brave members to participate in a number of fun games before our Christmas lunch.

Games included Hoop 1 in 2, Croquet Bowls, Peg or 10, Croquet Tennis to name a few. Team 2 comprising of Chrissie, Margaret and Barb won the morning activities.

Lunch was held at C.ex Urunga and was most enjoyable.

Gwen and Margaret were the lucky winners of the 1/2 leg hams and I am sure they will be a welcome addition to their Christmas festivities.

The Committee would like to wish all members unable to attend today along with our extended Croquet family a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Happy hooping in 2026.

Our 34th Annual AC Carnival is done and dusted. Thanks to all the players for making my job as Manager stress free.

A number of players triggered during the week and the Tournament Handicapper also elected to adjust one player’s handicap on top of their automatic trigger.

Results were:

Block A

Our 34th Annual AC Carnival has been running in perfect weather this week, although a bit chilly setting up the lawns at 7 am.

It is great catching up with players from other Clubs each year.

The lorikeets have entertained players with their antics around the birdbath.

Ten ladies from the Urunga Ladies Golf Club swapped their putters for mallets this morning to have a game of Golf Croquet.

With the golf course still unplayable after flooding last week, croquet was an option to get out for a bit of exercise and enjoy learning new skills.

Everyone enjoyed the morning and now know it is an option in the future when the golf course is closed to golfers. A couple of comments that croquet was much better fun than bowls, but all croquet players already know that !!!

BRING A FRIEND DAY

The weather wasn’t helpful for our ‘Bring a Friend’ Day, but we still had a couple of friends join us today to learn the basics of croquet.

One of them indicated they would return on a normal playing day.

Another couple who were going to attend but couldn’t make it today have already asked when our next day will be held.

Stuart from Byron Bay also had a game while waiting for his wife to finish at the dragon boat regatta.

JIM HICKS CHALLENGE

We hosted the Port Macquarie Croquet Club for the second year of the Jim Hicks Challenge. Jim was a long time member of both Clubs and after many years of playing AC in the Kelsall Shield it was agreed to play a GC event and name it after Jim.

After four rounds of 2 singles and 2 doubles matches Urunga was successful winning 10 matches to 6. Guess the ‘home ground’ advantage and extra stokes gave us the edge on the day.

Friendship days like this are great for creating lasting rivalry between Clubs and as there is plenty of space on the trophy this event can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Thanks to Alan Mashman from Woolgoolga, who is a ‘Referee in Training’ for your assistance on the day and hopefully today’s experience will assist you when your exam comes around.

Happy snaps from day 4 - the final day! The day started out turning a tad damp but turned into a magnificent sunny one! My thanks to a wonderful group of people for an extremely relaxing competition off the courts, on the courts the competition and high level of play was tremendous to watch!
Block A - Werner Borkhardt 1st, Dennise Simmons runner up.
Block B - very close, Eric Drury 1st, Jonathan Deans runner up, 1 hoop point difference.
Block C - Jo Lancaster 1st, Denis Cummings runner up.
