"Should you suck the venom out or cut the bite open?"

❌ FICTION!

Despite what you've seen in old movies, cutting a snake bite or trying to suck out the venom does NOT help.

In fact, it can:
⚠️ Cause more tissue damage
⚠️ Increase the risk of infection
⚠️ Delay proper treatment
⚠️ Put the rescuer at risk

✅ FACT: The recommended first aid treatment for most snake bites in Australia is:

Keep the person calm and still
Apply a Pressure Immobilisation Bandage
Immobilise the limb with a splint
Call 000
Do NOT wash the bite site (hospital staff may test for venom)

🐍 Australia is home to some of the world's most venomous snakes, but with the right first aid and prompt medical treatment, outcomes are usually very good.

The best snake bite treatment isn't bravery—it's proper first aid training!

This July, Training Centre Hervey Bay is proud to support the Leukaemia Foundation.

For every certificate issued during July, we will donate $10 to help support families facing one of life's toughest challenges.

This cause is incredibly close to our hearts. The Leukaemia Foundation provided our family with a home away from home, helping keep us together while we navigated our child's cancer journey and the uncertainty that came with it.

Every course completed helps us give back to an organisation that gave so much to us.

Everyone says to do CPR to the beat of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees...

But has anyone else noticed the first part feels a bit slow? 😂

🎵 "Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk..."

By the time you've got through that bit, your CPR manikin is looking at you like... 👀

The good news is the chorus kicks in right where you need it!

🎵 "Ah, ah, ah, ah... Stayin' Alive, Stayin' Alive!" 💓

That's around the recommended CPR rate of 100–120 compressions per minute.

So next time you're learning CPR, don't stress about being a disco dancer 🕺—just remember:
