At the Burnie Rugby Union Club, we believe rugby is more than just a game!

It's a place where people from all walks of life can come together, make lifelong friendships, challenge themselves, and be part of something bigger than themselves.

Whether you're a player, volunteer, coach, supporter, parent, referee, or someone thinking about giving rugby a go for the very first time, you have a place here with us.

We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all members of our club and community. Every person deserves to feel valued, supported and respected both on and off the field, and regardless of your experience or your position.

While passion and support from the sidelines are a valued part of rugby, we strongly encourage all spectators, members and supporters to be mindful of their language, behaviour and interactions with players, opposition, officials, volunteers and fellow spectators.

We also remind spectators that matches may be recorded, photographed or live streamed. Comments and behaviours displayed on the sidelines can be captured and shared beyond the field, reflecting not only on individuals but on our club and rugby community as a whole.

As we continue to focus on our club and culture, we encourage all players, members, volunteers and supporters to take a moment to familiarise themselves with the Rugby Australia Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct reflects the values we want to see across our club:
✅ Respect
✅ Inclusion
✅ Teamwork
✅ Integrity
✅ Sportsmanship

We are all responsible. Together, we can ensure that the Burnie Rugby Union Club remains a positive environment where everyone feels safe, welcome and proud to wear the Emus jersey.

One Club.
One Community.
A Place For Everyone.

💥 THIS WEEKEND 💥

We're sorry to notify our players, supporters, sponsors and community, that this weekend's double header against Eastern Suburbs has been forfeited due to their player shortages, across men & women's teams.

As a result, there will be no games weekend & our social event has been postponed. A disappointing result for our players - our men who were eager to be back at home after two weeks on the road, and our women who have now faced three consecutive forfeits.

We send our thoughts & well wishes to the injured players down south, and hope to see them back on the pitch soon!

** To keep our club momentum going we will offer an additional training session/team bonding session - both men's and women's teams welcome, new players are always welcome. Drills, fitness & a bit of banter (& we can tell it's getting a bit fiery between our QLD & NSW supporters)

SESSION COMMENCES 1PM - Emu Park 🤝 See you there!

DON'T FORGET, We have the TRU Junior Gala Day on Sunday at Don Oval, for those that want to help out, or juniors wanting to give a game a go! Make sure you head over to check it out!

ROUND THREE RECAP 🤝

Our men made the trip to Hobart for the second week in a row, taking on what was expected to be a well-drilled and structured Taroona outfit. While the scoreboard didn’t fall our way, the performance was one the group can be incredibly proud of; passionate, disciplined, and full of heart from start to finish.

Shoutout to Alex, who crossed for his first ever club rugby try after running onto what we’re hearing was an absolute pearler of a try assist from our men’s coach!

There were plenty of positives to take away & we’re proud of our men & excited to see them bounce back this week against the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Football Club. back at home.

Our women, took part in the inaugural TRU Women’s Gala Day, here at home. A huge thank you to the seven Burnie players who stepped up to help fill player shortages for Eastern Suburbs and Glenorchy in the opening match of the day. Unfortunately, the game was brought to an early finish due to injury, and we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured player.

Then came the much-anticipated women’s 15s clash, with our women taking on a combined Hobart side featuring players from Taroona, Glenorchy, Eastern Suburbs and Harlequins. With support from the Launceston Rugby Union Club on the sidelines, ready to jump in if needed, our women delivered a performance that can only be described as dominant and united.

Despite the match officially being recorded as a forfeit, the effort and standard displayed by our side was outstanding showcasing the depth of talent, commitment and teamwork.

To finish an incredible day of rugby with a full women's 15s match was something special for our ladies, and we hope it inspires even more women to join the game so we can continue growing player numbers across the whole state and see matches like this become a regular part of women’s rugby in Tasmania!🏉

Amongst all the action today! We're celebrating one of our club faves! ❤️

Some players leave an impact on the scoreboard.

Some leave an impact on a club. And then there are players like Claire Griffiths, who leave an impact on people.

Today, Claire runs out for her 110th** game of Rugby Union (**however, it's far more than that as she's played since 2016!). A milestone that represents far more than appearances, statistics, or years in the game. It represents commitment. Sacrifice. Resilience. Leadership. And an unwavering love for Rugby in Tasmania.

Claire ticked over the 100th game milestone, a phenomenal achievement built across her contributions to Tas Rugby, the Burnie Rugby Union Club, and her time at the Launceston Rugby Club, where she quietly and humbly hit her century. Whilst the milestone was ticked over away from home, with the same determination and selflessness she has always brought to the game, we are excited to make sure she feels the love the deserves here at Burnie by achieving this milestone!

Now in 2026, she returned home to Burnie with an unfinished business mentality, and the same fire and passion that has defined her entire rugby journey.

Claire is the type of player every club hopes to have, but very few are lucky enough to keep for long. A player who has worn multiple jerseys & filled countless roles across the field. Whether charging into contact as a dominant ball carrier, leading defensive lines, or using her elite Rugby IQ to guide those around her, Claire has consistently set the standard. Her greatest contribution to rugby cannot be measured in metres gained, tackles made, or games played. It’s her true impact has been the people she has inspired along the way.

For our younger female players, Claire has shown what toughness, passion, and dedication look like. For new players entering the sport, she has been a welcoming face, a mentor, and proof that rugby is about belonging just as much as performance. For teammates, she has been dependable in every sense of the word, someone who lifts standards simply by the way she trains, competes, and carries herself.

Players like Claire are the heartbeat of community rugby. They build culture. They inspire generations. They make clubs stronger both on and off the field.

110 games is an incredible achievement, and as a club, we’re thrilled to be able to share this milestone with her.

The legacy Claire Griffiths is building for women’s rugby in Tasmania goes far beyond a jersey or game count. Congratulations Claire and thank you for continuing to inspire everyone who has the privilege of sharing the field with you, or the bev after ❤️
