I was having a conversation with a client who's recently suffered a pretty significant knee injury, and it got me thinking about how we deal with injuries mentally while trying to continue to lift and rehab the injury.

What we need to do is think about what can be done, and not about what we've lost/can't do right now. This will place us in a position where we can fixate on the positives and continue to tackle what we need to in order to maintain our habits.

We also need to be forgiving of ourselves when we have bad days and feel like the injury has gotten the best of us, but don't allow that to derail everything.

You're still just as in control as you were before you got injured, you just need to be more creative about how you can do things now.

Variation lifts are used for a number of reasons, from being used as a load limiter before your primary days, to even addressing a weak point in your competition lift.

Your coach should be explaining why you're doing a variation, and what the desired outcome is by doing it. With that in mind, be deliberate with what you're trying to achieve by implementing that variation lift into your weekly training schedule.

If you have pause or tempo work before your primary days to drill positioning and/or power out of the hole, drill that during your variation sets and be mindful of what you did during your comp lift sets.

To have any kind of carry over you have to be mindful of what you're doing and why you're doing it, be deliberate.

U67.5kg raw National Champion!

did a beautiful job executing the game plan we created today, hitting some really nice PR's on all three lifts.

Squat - 140kg (20kg PR)
Bench - 82.5kg (7.5kg PR)
Deadlift - 165kg (5kg PR)
Total - 387.5kg (32.5kg PR)

Crazy part is, we're literally only getting started. Excited for Quinnies future!

More than just guidance 🐺

As a coach you have to be more than someone who puts numbers and letters into a spreadsheet and tells their clients what needs to be addressed to help their lifts improve.

Having someone in your corner to support and encourage your journey is where a lot of the value lies in having a coach, and is something I'm incredibly passionate about doing with every single client.

Great day for and .alchemia hitting some nice milestones!

Catherine -
Squat: 130kg (27.5kg PR)
Bench: 52.5kg (2.5kg PR)
Deadlift: 132.5kg (2.5kg PR, took a fourth attempt to get another unofficial PR of 137.5kg).

Aaron -
Squat: 140kg (20kg PR)
Bench: 90kg (12.5kg PR)
Deadlift: 177.5kg(7.5kg PR)

Catherine ended up placing first and cracking the over 300kg total milestone, and going 8/9. Aaron went 9/9, broke the over 400kg total barrier and narrowly missed out on a 4th attempt 3x bodyweight deadlift. Really proud of these two who put in the effort every week despite having pretty demanding and stressful jobs, awesome effort!
