It is with deep sadness we say goodbye to a stalwart of Badminton in our state.
A player and administrator of the game she gave everything to the game and devoted much time to ensure the game would grow and continue. Thank you Gwen for your love of the game and the passion in which you always gave both on and off the court. To Darren and Michelle and family our thoughts are with you at this time. Mrs Gweneth June Richardson played affiliated badminton from 1950 to 2010, becoming involved with its administration during the 1970’s.
Held positions:-
· Council Member of Tasmanian Badminton Assn (TBA) ongoing since 1988
· Secretary of North Western Badminton Association (NWBA) ongoing since 1994
· Treasurer of NWBA Coastal Roster ongoing since 1994
· NWBA Vice President 1983, 88, 89 (whilst Pres of EDBA)
· Delegate to NWBA for EDBA (1980’s to 1994)
· Roles of Treasurer, President & Secretary of Eastern Division Badminton Assn (EDBA) at various times (1970’s to 1994)
· Committee Member of EDBA (1970’s)
· Secretary/Treasurer of Devonport Badminton Club (1970’s)
· Event Director of NW Invitation Tournaments for 20+ years
· Event Director of Tas Championships for 8 years (every 3rd year when held by NWBA) Awards received:
· 2007 TBA Life Membership
· 2005 Badminton Australia Conspicuous Service Award
· 2004 NWBA Life Membership
· 2000 Australian Sports Medal (from Aust Govt. / Queen)
· 2000 Badminton Australia Certificate for Outstanding Service to Badminton
· 1982 Sports Association of Australia Highly Commended Award Medal - “Advocate” Coastal Champion of Sports 1981-82
· 1979 North Western Badminton Assn Service to Badminton Award Other:-
· Foundation Member NWBA Veterans
· Played in NWBA Coastal Roster from its commencement in 1977 until 2010 (also receiving award for being the only person to play 30 consecutive years from commencement)
· Represented NWBA in Tasmanian Triangular Series for 39 years in A, A Reserve, B & C grade

ENTRIES FOR STATE CAMP CLOSING SOON – Sunday 25 Jan

Entries for the Badminton Tasmania State Camp & Selection Trials (13–15 February 2026) are closing this Sunday 25 January.

Badminton Tasmania looks forward to welcoming junior and senior players to the 2026 State Camp at the Banksia Centre, Port Sorell.

This camp is for players who are currently at State Team level or aspiring to be part of the State Team pathway.

The camp will be led by Ashley Brehaut (Olympian) and will focus on player development and State Team pathways.

Key details
Dates: 13–15 February 2026
Cost: $100 per player (subsidised by Badminton Tasmania)
Badminton Tasmania will also contribute towards catering costs
Coaches and parents are welcome
