This month marks 5 years of my home biz Temple Pilates Studio!! It has seen quite a few changes as it has grown from our front room in St Kilda, to online then the back deck during Covid. Then our move to Tyabb on the Mornington Peninsula at the start of 2021 where I started again on the deck, then temporarily in the house while planning & waiting (and waiting…) on council to finally build my stand-alone studio space in the garden amongst the trees, birds & bunnies! It’s been a long time in the making and I’m so happy to enter this new era for both myself and my lovely clients, both new and those who have been with me since the deck days of Covid. I finally have the Pilates temple I dreamed of. Big thanks to Dean for being both handy & supportive and to my much missed parents for enabling me to make the dream so much dreamier. 💕

Belated post due to my phone giving up the ghost, but spent a wonderful weekend at the conference in Melbourne last month. Three days of workshops and catch ups with Pilates colleagues & friends. Enriching & inspiring sessions with both local & international presenters. And plenty of laughs too. And Melbourne town, you did not disappoint! 😊

Pilates in Paris! Did a wonderful advanced Wall Unit class yesterday at Studio Danse Pilates in the Bastille. A challenging class with purpose & connection thanks to the warmth & knowledge of Martine. Plus the class was conducted entirely in French, which is also good practice for me! It’s so lovely to experience Pilates on the other side of the world, in situ, instead of online. Technology has given us the gift of possibility that online provides, but nothing beats getting on a mat, in an actual physical place. And if that happens to be Paris, no complaints here. 😁

The Knockaloe Centre for WWI Internment on the Isle of Man is a must visit for any Pilates teacher, but it’s also well worth a visit for anybody interested in history. Joseph Pilates has left us the incredible legacy of his movement system, but he’s also been a man of some mystery regarding his past and exactly where and how he developed Contrology. He described watching Manx cats behind the wire stretching/pandiculating to keep their muscles limber and alive; and this clearly fed into his work. While there is some contention about whether he actually did use springs in hospital beds to help patients’ recovery at the camp, what is certain is that his years interned on the island throughout the war did give him the time and opportunity to observe, think, reflect and germinate his Contrology system. And what a legacy it is. 💕 For more info: knockaloe.im

We’re now on the lovely Isle of Man, home of the world famous TT motorcycle race, the Manx fairies (or Little People) who you need to suitably greet each time you pass the Fairy Bridge; and importantly if you’re a Pilates teacher or enthusiast, the Knockaloe Internment Camp where Joseph Pilates was interned during WWI (more on that in my next post).

Today I visited the lovely home studio ‘The Pilates Room with Lianne’, as was itching to do a Classical session on the island where Pilates had plenty of time and opportunity to germinate his amazing method. Thanks for an enjoyable chat and session of quality teaching and perspective . I highly recommend a visit to Lianne’s studio if you’re ever on the island.

So great to visit other studios whilst travelling overseas. I love the atmosphere of a studio setting (particularly when your London hotel room is so small you can barely open the door fully let alone lie on the floor & actually move a body part! 🤣). First stop was Exhale Pilates in Primrose Hill for a tower class. No Harry Styles there that day, but great to get on the springs and experience the London vibe. 😊
