Tweed Heads Amatuer Fishing Club Inc Tweed Heads Amateur Fishing Club is a part of South Tweed Sports Club. Established in 1912, it is one of the oldest fishing clubs in Australia.

Families are welcome. Competitions are held approximately every 2 weeks for 24 hours over the weekend. Tweed Heads Amateur Fishing Club is a group of like minded anglers, who fish in the interests of the future, in terms of environmental awareness, catch sizes and bag limits, to ensure a sustained and productive environment for generations to come. A friendly and welcoming group, who are more than willing to show you the ropes (so to speak) of everything from baiting your hook, tying the knots, casting, and hauling in the big ones! There is also the competitions for the competitive, which can be fun even if you're just an onlooker. One of Queensland's biggest events on the fishing and tackle calendar is back, with the Australian Fishing and Tackle Association (AFTA) Tackle Show Public Day taking place on Saturday 22 August at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in South Bank.

Does your catch have resting beach face? 😐

Fish mouths come in all shapes and sizes which is no accident.
The shape and position of a fish's mouth can reveal where it feeds, what it eats and how it catches its prey.

⬆️ Dusky flathead have a superior mouth angled upwards, perfect for ambushing squid, fish and crustaceans from below.

⬇️ Sand whiting have a subterminal mouth tucked underneath, ideal for foraging along the seafloor for worms, pipis and crustaceans.

➡️ Tailor have a terminal mouth that points straight ahead, built for chasing down schools of fish in open water.

These are just some of the fish our Fisheries Monitoring team gathers biological data on to help monitor fish populations and support sustainable fisheries management across Queensland.

From Monday 1 June to Monday 31 August inclusive, Australian bass is a no-take species in all Queensland tidal waters. 🛑🐟

This closure protects Australian bass while they spawn in estuaries during winter. It helps make sure they stay a popular catch for the future.
