CARBOHYDRATES
First of all carbs don’t make you fat , eating more calories overall than you burn will cause weight gain.
Your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose. Glucose, or blood sugar, is the main source of energy for your body's cells, tissues, and organs. Glucose can be used immediately or stored in the liver and muscles for later use.
So in regards to training carbs fuel your work out.
The carb sources shown above are complex e.g. sweet potato, while grain pasta and bread, brown rice beans and are more nutritious options compared to simple carbs e.g. soda, baked goods, fruit juice, lollies, white rice.
