February’s been a proper run and it’s not done yet. The fishing has just been too good not to share.

Across the board trout and cod have both been exceptional whether you have been throwing fly or lure. The hopper fishing on the Tumut has delivered some genuine red letter days and the native sessions have been just as strong for those prepared to put the time in.

We have seen personal best fish hit the net, father and son days that will be talked about for years, and anglers of all experience levels finding their feet out there with new species. Plenty of familiar faces back again and a few new ones as well.

March dates are now all spoken for and April dates are starting to fill up. If autumn natives are on your list, get in touch sooner rather than later.

Firsts on the fly. And a BIGGEST by far.

James and Finn rolled into the Tumut River for their first proper drift and it didn’t take long for things to line up. Straight off the bat we were into them, and it never really slowed much from there!

Once we switched to dries, it happened quick. Third cast in, James slapped a hopper tight to the edge and the best-conditioned brown I’ve seen this season slid out and ate it in slow motion.

One of those eats you don’t forget.

What followed had us all grinning. Finn got to see exactly what fly fishing is about - timing, water, food source and just how productive it can be when it all comes together.

Thanks for a cracking day on the river fellas.

Looking forward to round two on the natives next time 😎🙌🏻

Before the year gets too far away, it’s worth slowing down for a moment.

A few standout milestones lately - after a lifetime around Australian fishing, visitors from Canada and Switzerland finding personal bests, and longtime friends ticking off things years in the making. Even for me, Christmas Day delivered one I won’t forget on a fly tied by a dear friend and captured beautifully by 👌🏻

In between trips, a bit of time at the vice and the odd trout spey have kept me ticking over - a guilty pleasure through the holiday rush.

Both trout and cod have been well and truly switched on, and it’s been one of those stretches where things fall into place if you’re paying attention.

And to everyone affected by the fires burning hard along the VIC/NSW border and throughout - wishing you all safety through a tough time out there.

Safe opening day to everyone heading out tomorrow!
Cod season’s back, and it’s good to be sliding into summer pace on the rivers again.

If you’re looking at a trip in the new year chasing natives on fly or lure, there’s never been a better time to lock one in 🤘🏻

I’ve been a bit quiet on here of late, but not for lack of things happening… To give you a glimpse, the past week alone has had us covering just about everything the river and lake can throw up, the kind of stretch that feels like a whole season packed into a handful of days.

We’ve had old friends sharing a boat for the first time, father and son duos learning the ropes, land based wanders, long drifts in the raft, and even a session hassling goldens out on Blowering dam. We’ve found browns in tight, rainbows holding fast, and steady fishing right across the board on a variety of techniques!

I’m grateful to everyone who has stepped into the boat or walked a river with me so far this season. It truly means a lot.

December is down to literally two days left in the middle of the month, and the hopper season ahead is shaping up nicely. With summer just around the corner, we all know what that means… time to get back out there and chase natives again.

If you’re keen to slip into one of the last December spots or line up a cod drifting adventure for the new year, flick through an email or text.

It’s going to be a HOOT 😎🤘🏻

Opening day of NSW trout season and the Tumut didn’t disappoint — the river’s looking healthy, fish are feeding, and it’s great to be back out there.

This season marks a small new chapter for SVFF — meet Jayden, the keenest young fella I know when it comes to fishing. His enthusiasm reminds me a lot of myself at his age.
He’s jumping onboard to start learning the ropes — from the flies I tie to the boat we row, and all the ‘boring stuff’ in between, as he puts it.

Exciting times ahead — for the season, the river, and the young fella.

I’ve only got two days left open in October, so if you’ve been thinking about getting out there in the opening month, now’s the time.

It feels cliché to say it, but this really was one of those seasons that will stick with me. From first cod on fly to the kind of river unicorns that don’t come around often — and all the good times shared in between — every trip had its own story.

A massive thanks to everyone who joined me on the water. The fish are part of it, but it’s the laughs, the campfires, the long drifts, and the time spent together that really make these seasons memorable. More nights were spent under moonlight than not over the peak, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Next season is shaping up to be even bigger. From single-day trips to multi-day expeditions, or mixing across natives and their not-so-native salmonid counterparts we all love so much — there’s plenty in the works.

In the meantime, Blowering Dam will keep us busy. One of only two waters in NSW open year-round, and a place that just keeps producing.

Spaces on the bigger expeditions will be tight again next season, but that’s part of what makes them special — variety really is the spice of life here in the Snowy Valleys. ❤️

Hard to believe we’re already talking trout season again — this winter’s slipped by in a blink.

Come October, the rivers will open, the fish will be feeding, and it’s the perfect time to shake off the winter dust and get a bend in the rod.

I’ve already got a few early season spots pencilled in, so if a drift, a day on foot, or a high country mission is on your radar, now’s the time to make it happen.

Absolutely blown away to have received the Excellence in Innovation award at the 2025 Awards night.

I’m honestly just so grateful — to every single client who’s joined me on the water, past, present, and future. Thank you for putting your trust in me to deliver an experience worth remembering. You’re the reason this thing keeps moving.

Since landing in Tumut a few years back, it’s been a WILD ride — full of moments that’d give a reality TV producer a run for their money. There’ve been tough times that’ve weighed heavy, but I’ve always tried to keep my head high, believe in myself, and lead with integrity. The support I’ve had from those around me — mates, mentors, and clients alike — has meant the world and kept the smile glued on.

A huge congratulations to my beautiful fiancée for taking out Outstanding Visitor Experience as co-owner of — without her support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And a big shoutout to for all the work behind the scenes (and for putting up with my annoying phone calls 😂).

Cheers for backing me — this one means a lot. 🙏🏻
