Hume and Hovell Track

Hume and Hovell Track Official page of the Hume and Hovell Track. The track stretches over 426km between Yass and Albury The Hume + Hovell Track is provided by the NSW Government.

Discover the natural attractions of the South West Slopes of New South Wales, explore rugged bushland or visit one of many picnic and camping trackheads. Stretching 426km between Yass and Albury, the track retraces the famous footsteps of Hamilton Hume and William Hovell on their 1824 expedition to Port Phillip. The three major trackheads, Fitzpatrick, Thomas Boyd and Henry Angel, offer excellent car-based camping, with varied and interesting day walks in either direction from the trackhead. For the more experienced hiker, 17 campsites have been developed at a days walking distance apart. The track was developed as a Bicentennial project in 1988 and maintained by Crown Lands, with the assistance and cooperation of Forestry NSW and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Update from the Hume & Hovell Ultra team! 🏃‍♂️

For more information and to register head to:

It's peak training time for the 2026 Hume and Hovell Ultra. Our plans are coming together and we hope yours are too!

*brief update below*
If you're putting in some training but still on the fence, we'd encourage you to jump on and register sooner rather than later. Standard entry fees end on August 31 and with registrations more than double previous years at this point, we have set a cap on entries, with some events likely to sell out. We love seeing the interest in the event, but also want to make sure it's a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, at the race hub and on trail.

As of 24 August, there are:
25 spots left in the 100km
19 spots left in the 50km
55 spots left in the 22km
41 spots left in the 11km, plus 19 more for U18

RaceRoster has been updated now to reflect the spaces available.

We will aim to be flexible on moving spots around if one distance doesn't sell out but others do, while keeping a firm cap on total numbers.

As always, reach out with any questions- best way is to send an email to [email protected].

Looking forward to seeing you all in October!

Reflections Burrinjuck Waters has advised that they are currently without an operator for the Hume & Hovell Track boat ride. As a result, the boat link service between Reflections Burrinjuck Waters and Cathedral Rock (north of Wee Jasper) is temporarily suspended.

Re-establishing this boat link quickly is a major priority for us because it serves as a vital connection on the Hume and Hovell Track. We are working closely with relevant parties to help find a solution as fast as possible.

The Track remains open, however, if you are planning an end-to-end hike or a section walk through this area over the coming months, you will need to plan an alternate route or arrange transport to bypass the water crossing.

Full details and advice can be found on our track update here:

were out on the track and completed another section from Lankeys Creek through to Tin Mines Campsite. Although there was an early morning frost it didn't stop a beautiful walk ahead.

"Bird song was a constant companion on this section of the track. Less than 100 km to go! The 95km marker lies just outside Tin Mines campsite and put a spring in our steps. Looking forward to continuing to make new discoveries as we approach Albury in future walks. Till next time…. "

The word is out!
Ben Smith Campsite has now reopened after being destroyed in the 2019/2020 black summer bushfires and subsequent flooding in 2020.

With the installation of a new hut, water tank, BBQ, toilet and sleeping platform this is the perfect stop between Blowering Dam & Buddong Falls.

This is a significant milestone for us, returning the full 426km of track back to its original route and restoring the historic Hume & Hovell Track.
A huge thank you to our work crews and maintenance team for their efforts to bring this site back to life!

Spraying will be via ground-based or helicopter application. Ground based application will be used when spraying within 150m of the walking track.

The areas undergoing the treatment (shown in yellow on the map below) are located to the north and south of Junction Campsite.
