Traralgon Tennis Association Events Serve Up More Than $13 Million for the Community
Traralgon’s growing reputation as one of regional Australia’s premier tennis destinations is continuing to deliver huge benefits both on and off the court, with new figures revealing local tennis events have generated more than $13.4 million in economic impact over the past two years.
The impressive result highlights the enormous contribution major sporting events are making to the local economy, bringing visitors, accommodation bookings, dining, shopping, and tourism dollars directly into the Gippsland region.
According to the figures, the total economic impact generated from events held across 2024, 2025 and early 2026 now sits at an incredible $13,475,576.92.
Leading the charge has been the AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International, which alone generated more than $2.5 million in 2024, almost $3 million in 2025, and has already surpassed $3 million in 2026 — with several more events still to come this year.
Other major events contributing strongly included the Latrobe City Traralgon International Pro Tour tournaments, the Gallipoli Youth Cup, Optus Open and Junior Events, the Rafa Nadal Tour, and the Frank Sedgman Regional Cup.
The figures reinforce Traralgon’s standing as a key regional hub for elite and junior tennis, attracting competitors, families, coaches, officials and spectators from across Australia and overseas.
Importantly, the benefits stretch far beyond the tennis courts.
Local cafes, restaurants, accommodation providers, retailers and tourism operators all share in the flow-on effect created when thousands of visitors arrive in town for tournaments and championships.
Latrobe City data also shows strong attendance numbers across major events over recent years, including more than 2,000 attendees at both the 2025 AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International and the upcoming 2026 Traralgon Junior International.
While organisers noted that overall numbers in 2025 were slightly lower due to the absence of the Pro Tour events and slightly reduced participation in some junior tournaments, the overall result remains an extraordinary achievement for a regional tennis club.
The continued success of these events is also shining a spotlight on Gippsland as a destination capable of hosting world-class sporting competitions, while delivering lasting economic and community benefits for the wider region.
