ROUND 8 – MATCHDAY REPORT ⚽️
SENIOR WOMEN – 2-0 WIN
A comfortable win for the girls where we were able to create the better chances, limit Churchill to long balls and shut down their physical style of play.
Hannah Meyer opened the scoring after some tight dribbling from Claudia created an opening for a shot that was blocked, with Hannah following up to finish into the bottom left corner.
Credit to the Churchill girls who battled all game with only 11 players available.
The goal that sealed the game came from great pressure up front from Sally Frith, who flew in from NZ this morning and still managed to bring intensity and press as soon as she got on the pitch.

SENIOR MEN – 0-4 LOSS
Another tough contest began with a reshuffled lineup, with several senior players still sidelined through injury.
Churchill opened the scoring from a set piece before Lester came agonisingly close to equalising, rattling the crossbar with a direct free kick from 25 metres out. Churchill then doubled their advantage just before halftime to take a 2–0 lead into the break.
Despite the result, City showed positive signs throughout the match and played some excellent football in patches. Neave was outstanding in midfield, consistently breaking down Churchill’s attacks and providing stability through the centre of the park. Harper’s hold-up play and ability to link attacks continues to impress, and there is plenty of excitement about what he can produce when given an extended opportunity in the centre-forward role.
Three Under-17 players stepped up into the senior men’s matchday squad, with Jack Isherwood named as an unused substitute, while Jack Lynch and Lachlan Carney gained valuable senior experience with minutes on the pitch.
The match also marked the final appearance for Jeremias Emiliano Ruiz in City colours. His experience, leadership and value to a young squad have been greatly appreciated, and the club thanks him for his contribution.
RESERVES - 1-6 LOSS
The Traralgon City Reserves welcomed Churchill Rams to home turf on Sunday, taking on a strong opposition in what proved to be another valuable test for our young squad. Lyndon was influential after moving into midfield, providing a strong physical presence and helping drive the team forward whenever the opportunity arose.
Despite heading into the halftime break trailing 3-0, the scoreline didn't accurately reflect the contest. Traralgon created several promising opportunities throughout the opening half and showed plenty of attacking intent but were unable to find the finishing touch. An unfortunate own goal also added to Churchill's advantage, leaving the hosts with plenty of work to do after an otherwise competitive first 45 minutes.
While the result wasn't what the side was hoping for, the effort, resilience and continued development shown by the group remain encouraging signs as the season progresses.

3RD DIVISION – 2-4 LOSS
Traralgon City Thirds came out firing, with second-game recruit Keenan Hughes finding the back of the net early to give City the perfect start. Churchill responded well, and began to control possession with strong ball movement that proved difficult to contain, allowing them to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
City lifted in the opening stages of the second half and looked capable of turning the momentum back in their favour. Both sides converted from the penalty spot during an entertaining second period, but Churchill’s sustained pressure and ability to capitalise on their chances ultimately saw them pull away for a 4-2 victory.
While the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positive signs, with City showing resilience throughout the contest and continuing to build as a group heading into the coming weeks.

Gus x 1
