When you live and breath your career its very common to get swept up in it all.
As passionate as I am with my job I sometimes have to take a step back and remember that it doesn't define me, I am so much more than my career and having a work life balance is so important.

So here are some none gym related fun facts about me ๐Ÿคช

๐Ÿ”ด My favourite food is fish & chips and chocolate cake!

โšซ๏ธ I have a very weirdly good memory. I remember specific events that happen to the point I can tell you the exact date it happened on.

๐Ÿ”ด I built a house by myself and live by myself (independent queen some would say ๐Ÿ˜)

โšซ๏ธ I have 10 tattoos ๐Ÿ’‰

๐Ÿ”ด I hate driving to places I've never been before, I'll avoid it at all costs.

โšซ๏ธ I haven't eaten Maccaโ€™s, KFC or Hungry Jacks in over 8 years. Not for the fact of โ€˜healthโ€™ it's just me being competitive and now I donโ€™t want to lose my streak ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hands up if you've stepped into the gym with no plan or structure?

Like I've said many of times we end up walking into the gym with no clue what to do because there is no structure, so we stick to the treadmill then do a few sit ups and call it a day ๐Ÿซ 

Having an understanding on when you're going to train, what you're going to train and recording you training session will give you the biggest advantage in making progress as well as giving you more confidence inside the gym.

The lack of not knowing technique with a movement can be a tricky obstacle to try and get over. Sometimes we are too scared to try a new movement because we are too worried about if A) we are going to do it correctly or B) if someone around us will be looking at us thinking "wtf are they doing"

So we shimmy back into our corner and stick to the 4 movements we know how to do. Now what if I told you that sticking to those 4 movements you're comfortable with arenโ€™t giving you much help with making progress in the gym?

Having a fear of not knowing the correct technique in movements is totally normal and it can be easily fixed by seeing a coach face to face to get the guidance and understanding so that you are able to use more of the gym equipment that is available at the gym.

"But I donโ€™t want regular PT session " thats okay - Just because you see a personal trainer doesnโ€™t mean you're stuck with them forever. Maybe it might just be a few sessions to brush up on technique? Maybe its a fortnightly or monthly face to face sessions to get more guidance and review your goals.

I got into this career because I want to be able to help as many people as I can, whether that be helping them loose weight, help them improve their strength or better their technique.

Real time feedback is so important when it comes to training in a gym and especially when you're a newbie. Getting that real time and hands on feedback allows clients to be more efficient and effective with both technique and performance.

We will go through the essential movement patterns of the lifts and we will ALWAYS start with lightweight. I'm a huge believer that a beginner should always start with a lightweight, even if they think they can go heavier. If you're returning from time off from the gym or your brand new your body is going to be under enough stress as it is, no need to put it under more stress by adding heavy weighs to the mix.

Do you ever feel like you're getting consumed by the gym and training? You feel guilty for skipping a session or having a rest day?
As much as this is a good mind set to have towards the gym and training I also think it's important to have balance when it comes to training.

Coming from someone thats job is the gym as well as my own personal training on-top I can say that I've had periods where it feels like every little thing I did involved the gym and let me tell you, it's not healthy, we need balance!

Here's a few things I've changed over the years to allow me to have more of a gym/life balance.

โ–ถ๏ธŽ Structured training: Instead of working out everyday doing random workouts, I now have 4 sessions a week to complete and I can alter the days I do them on allowing for flexibility.

โ–ถ๏ธŽ Timing my training sessions: Timing those rests in-between sets are crucial if you're someone like me and gets carried away during your rest time and then ends up being at the gym for an hour longer than needed.

โ–ถ๏ธŽ Skipping a session when needed: Now I donโ€™t like to miss a session but sometimes last minute social events happen and if it means I have to miss a session to catch up with friends I'm A-okay with that. If Iโ€™m not in prep for a comp and donโ€™t have to be so strict with training, I'll allow myself to skip a session and have that balance.

What does it really mean? It means focusing all you energy and sense in the task thats at hand.
Intent is defined as your intention or purpose. When you train, what's the purpose of that training session? what are you thinking when you are training? Is your intent to get the session over and done with so you can go home, or it is to push and strive to become stronger and fitter and the best version of yourself?

Not too sure if you're training with intent? Ask yourself these questions ๐Ÿ‘‡

โ–บ Do you challenge yourself by increasing the weights?
โ–บ Are you mindful of your rest time between sets?
โ–บ Are you focusing on each rep with good form and technique?
โ–บ Do you get outside your comfort zone to be better and stronger than your last training session?

Intent can make a huge difference in how an individual approaches and executes theyโ€™re training.

๏ฟฝWe've all heard the saying "the only bad workout is the one you didnโ€™t do" but I donโ€™t entirely agree with this. ๏ฟฝSometimes you need to listen to your body and have a rest so that you can come back more motivated and determined the next day.

We glorify training when youโ€™re sick, training on zero amounts of sleep, or training even though your muscles are screaming in pain like we deserve a medal for sticking to the program but in reality are bodies are telling us to stop and rest but we ignore it because we feel like its the right thing to do (and also we need to tell the gram that we smashed a super hard session on zero amounts of sleep ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ )

Itโ€™s time to stop ignoring all the red flags that our bodies are giving us and REST!!

You cant keep pouring from an empty cup, have a rest when its needed!

17th September ... Today marks 8 amazing years being in the fitness industry!

To be doing something I love and that I'm so passionate about for almost a decade now is incredible, This job has opened up so many doors for me both as a coach and as an athlete and I will forever be grateful to be able to call this my job!

I've learnt and grown so much in the last 8 years and I will always be doing everything in my power to be providing my clients with the highest knowledge possible with strength and conditioning.... as well as having a laugh and a boogie along the way. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

One thing that I have noticed over the last few years is female coaches & personal trainers only coaching females.
It's plastered all over social media that they wont take on any males as clients ... and honestly that baffles me!

I understand each coach needs to find their niche clientele when it comes to coaching but you've immediately eliminating 50% of potential new clients! Yeah sure maybe thatโ€™s part of their marketing strategy, but personally I don't vibe it ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I ainโ€™t a "female only" coach, I will happily coach males that are looking to improve their strength and get better guidance and understanding in the gym.

So this ones for my brothers from other mothers!
๏ฟฝI know from years of coaching males that most of you have little knowledge in the gym & not much understanding on what you need to do to gain strength, and thats okay! For some reason society made it out that if you're a male you should know exactly what to do when it comes to the gym but in reality its the complete opposite!
