Established in 2015, we are a group of enthusiastic, friendly people with a common interest amongst us, we love dragon boating. We are fortunate in North Queensland that our climate is perfect for paddling all year round. Whether on the ocean or on the river, if you love being on the water, being active and making friends, then this is a fabulous sport for you. Dragon boating is for adults, junior
s (from age 8) and veterans (see our Purple Warriors page). The challenge of dragon boat racing lies not only in paddling technique but also the synchronization of 10 or 20 paddlers in the boat. We aim to develop the sport in North Queensland and be inclusive of anyone willing to get in to a boat and give it a go! We are very excited to be the host club for Purple Warriors Townsville. Purple Warriors Australia was created to give former and current serving members of the Australian Defence force an outlet to rehabilitate, reconnect and inspire recovery through the sport of outrigger canoe racing and dragon boat racing. Purple Warriors Australia aims to provide a platform for service personnel to reconnect with likeminded individuals through training and competing in water sports. The following categories are open for membership.
1. Wounded Warrior- – These include physical and mental injuries suffered as a direct result of their service.
2. Combat Veterans – Current and former serving member of the Australian Defence force who have earned the Australian active service medal, the Active service medal or the Operational service medal.
3. Veterans – Anyone who has served for at least 1 day in the Australian Defence Force. There is a lot to learn about Dragon Boating. Want to know more? Come on in and join us in this dynamic, vibrant sport! Enjoy and have fun!!! Club Training:
