Today we held our very first judo sessions in our new home at 35 Edison Street, Wulguru.

We welcomed 40 students across three classes, with five coaches on the mat.

There are still plenty of finishing touches to come (and we'll do a final reno wrap-up post soon!) but after seeing our members here tonight it’s already starting to feel like home.

SO LONG, TOWNSVILLE SPORTS PRECINCT!

From a small group and a stack of mats in early 2024, to a club that simply outgrew the space that helped us rebuild.

This is where so many first stepped onto the mat, tied on a white belt, returned to judo, made friends and became part of Townsville Judo.

And one of the best parts? So many of these familiar faces are still with us today. ❤️

Thank you, Townsville Sports Precinct, for being our home for this chapter.

SO LONG, TOWNSVILLE SPORTS PRECINCT!

Tomorrow, on Wednesday 2 September 2026, we will hold the first judo classes in our new location at 35 Edison St, Wulguru!

Before we turn the page, we want to say thank you to Townsville Sports Precinct for being our home since we reopened under the "Townsville Judo" banner in early 2024.

After some years dormant following flooding and Covid, we came back with a small group, a stack of mats and a lot of hope.

Since then, this space has seen kids tie on their first white belt, adults discover judo, others return after years away, friendships form and competitors grow.

Best of all, so many of the faces in these old photos are still with us today. ❤️

Over the last two and a half years, our little club grew until we simply outgrew the space that helped us get started. That’s a pretty wonderful problem to have.

To everyone who has walked through those doors (or really, that gate😂) thank you for being part of this chapter.

📣 BIG NEWS: WE’RE MOVING!

Townsville Judo Club is relocating to a new home!

Over the past couple of years our volunteer-run, not-for-profit club has grown to be Queensland's largest judo club and we’ve officially outgrown our current space.

We intend to be running classes from the new dojo very soon, with just a few things left to finish first. We’re also getting ready to host our first competition there on Saturday 12 September (registration link in comments!).

📣 When is the best time to secure your new Play On! Sports Voucher?

Applications for Play On! Sports Vouchers will open on 27 July, with up to $200 available to help Queensland kids aged from 5-17 participate in sport.

There will be two opportunities to apply this financial year.

If you’re planning ahead for summer sport, it’s best to apply this round. If your focus is on winter sports like netball or football, you may prefer to wait for the round later this financial year.

To help make your application quick and easy, log in to your Enquire account before 27 July and check your details are up to date. ✅
