Belly Dance Collective has had the pleasure of teaching the wider North Queensland community the art of Belly Dance since 1995. Originally called Nicolettes Palace under director Nicole (Nicolette) Pitman, changing hands in 2004 under director Cara Johns and finding it's new name Scimitar Moon Belly Dance. We have since rebranded and renamed under our new title, Belly Dance Collective. We specialise in Egyptian Raqs Sharqi style Belly Dance as well as fusion styles, in particular the fusion of Flamenco and Latin American dance. Our performance troupe is available to hire for all functions as well as festivals, private parties and corporate events. Cara is one of only a handful of full time professional dancers in Queensland. With over 20 years of teaching experience and a teaching style that is warm and inclusive focusing on technique, strength and flexibility while learning to remain in the moment. We just released the information for next term and it's a banger! Tango is back! We've got a brand new intermediate Salsa course. Our popular 'mash up' series is back and you can catch the last into to rueda de casino course we'll be running until later next year. We also have some amazing Belly Dance courses, plus Kizomba and Bachata! There's something to suit everyone! How long have you been Belly Dancing? 22 years

What is your favourite dance memory? Tequila shots before doing a sword dance; or maybe dancing barefoot to a middle eastern folk band on the pavement in Brisbane.

What styles of dance do you know? Bellydance, including Tribal style and fusion, ballet, Jazz, Flamenco, a little Greek dancing and some Appalachian Clog dancing. (No that’s not a joke).

Any other special talents? I can float in the ocean sitting up, I’m also pretty good at cooking and gardening.

Something unusual or funny most people wouldn’t know about you? I started my own religious order when I was 15.

How long have you been Belly Dancing? About 16 years, 15 with the performance troupe. Have made many wonderful friends along the way

What is your favourite dance memory? There are so many to choose from, mainly they’re the times that something funny happened on stage and I was trying not to laugh! I just love the togetherness and teamwork behind the scenes!

What styles of dance do you know? Belly and nightclub…

Any other special talents? I am pretty mediocre actually!
