I’m excited to share that **In Tune Music – Piano Lessons Townsville** has been named **Best Music School in Townsville 2026** by the Quality Business Awards. 🎹🏆

This is such a gratifying recognition of what I aim to create through my teaching: piano lessons that are practical, personalised, encouraging, and focused on helping students become real musicians - not just people who can read notes from a page.

Whether students are complete beginners, returning to piano after years away, or wanting to move beyond traditional lessons, my goal is always to help them play music they genuinely love while building confidence, understanding, creativity, and useful real-world piano skills.

🎹 The final video in my behind-the-scenes series of isolated keyboard tracks from Chris Missen Music's new album Saudade Stories brings us full circle—back to Sh*tfaced and Shameless, now reimagined with both piano and organ.

This new version adds depth and drama to the Southern Rock ballad, with the two instruments trading lines, creating counterpoint, and reinforcing each other. I used changing Leslie speaker and drawbar settings to shape the organ tone—mellow in places, haunting in others, and more biting and bright when the emotion called for it.

🎹 Today's selection from Chris Missen Music's new album is back in jazz territory. This is the isolated piano part I recorded for This Game of Make Believe, a post-bop ballad inspired by Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and Bill Evans' piano playing. This one’s moodier than the earlier jazz ballad I shared, A Shade of Blue — leaning into modal harmony, quartal voicings, and upper extensions to create a sense of ambiguity and space. The piano part is deliberately sparse, leaving plenty of room for the muted trumpet solo that appears in the full track. Enjoy!

🎶 Here’s a more romantic selection that I recorded with Chris Missen Music for his new album, Saudade Stories — my isolated arrangement of You Take My Breath Away, featuring piano, nylon-string guitar, vibraphone, and violin.

This one leans into a Latin-Jazz ballad feel, with each instrument playing a distinct role in shaping the atmosphere. I aimed for a lyrical, spacious piano approach that supports the melody while allowing the other voices to shine.

You can check out the full mix on the album, but I hope you enjoy hearing the inner workings of the arrangement in this stripped-back form.

Today I'm sharing something a little more whimsical from my recent recording with Chris Missen Music for his new album, Saudade Stories. This is my isolated piano part for Trudi and Jackson—a country-rock tune full of Honky-Tonk flavour and a splash of New Orleans R&B.

The lyrics had a screwball comedy/buddy road-movie feel that reminded me of Peter Bogdanovich’s Paper Moon, so I kept the piano light, playful, and full of character. I recorded two piano parts for this one—melodic fills up front and a rhythm track later on that channels a bit of Allen Toussaint–style groove and charm.

After our detour to the lush, synth-laden soundscape of In The Pouring Rain, today we’re back at the crossroads of jazz and blues. This is my isolated piano part from Big Ole Blue Moon—a vintage swing-blues ballad I recorded with Chris Missen Music for his upcoming album.

It’s a livelier counterpart to the other jazz-blues ballad I previously shared, A Shade of Blue—with stride-style left hand, bluesy fills, and a rhythmic bounce inspired by Fats Waller.

🎹 Today, I've got a more upbeat behind-the-scenes treat from my recent recording with Chris Missen Music. This is my isolated piano part for You Can’t Fool Me—a country-rock track with Tex-Mex flavour from Chris's upcoming 2025 album.

In the choruses, I lean into a left-hand rhumba groove against half-note triplets in the right. It’s not your typical country-rock feel, but it gives the song a unique, offbeat momentum. I didn’t have a specific influence in mind while arranging it, though in hindsight, Kevin McKendree's playing with Delbert McClinton crept in subconsciously.

Today I'm sharing something a bit different from my recent recording with Chris Missen Music. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at my isolated keyboard parts for In The Pouring Rain—an ambient 80s power ballad that’s a departure from the more stripped-back piano videos I’ve shared previously.

In the spirit of 80s excess, I composed and performed three keyboard tracks for this one, drawing inspiration from Purple Rain, The Boys of Summer, and the Twin Peaks theme. I wanted to create something that felt cinematic, emotional, and textured.

This is my isolated piano track for A Shade of Blue—a minimalist Jazz-Blues ballad with a late-night, introspective vibe—from Chris's upcoming 2025 album.
I focused on creating space and mood, with carefully chosen voicings and sparse phrasing to let the song breathe. Sometimes it's the quietest choices that say the most.
