Josie (Prospettiva)
Free to the right home
This is a very hard post to write.
After a lot of thought, I’ve made the heartbreaking decision to rehome Josie. She is sound, but she does trip intermittently, and because of this she cannot be trusted for any competitive life. I cannot stress this enough — it only takes one bad trip for a long road to recovery. While I have never fallen from her, she has unfortunately hurt herself a couple of times, which required time to heal. This decision is about both my safety and hers.
I’ve had Josie since Dec 2024 and have tried everything to get her right. Despite all efforts, I simply can’t trust that she won’t trip.
Josie requires consistent care and management. She is not a horse you can leave in a paddock and forget about. She is currently fed once a day (she would happily eat more!) and can be considered hard to keep. She does well in a herd — not bossy, but definitely not bottom of the pecking order. She stands hard tied for as long as needed.
In temperament, Josie is full of life. She is not a beginner’s horse. She can still carry on a bit — never malicious or trying to hurt anyone — she’s just forward, enthusiastic, and loves to go. That said, she also loves affection, cuddles, and scratches, and is very people-oriented. She whinnies constantly and forms strong bonds.
She will go anywhere you point her and has total trust in her rider. While she could suit someone wanting a very quiet walking-only trail horse, she doesn’t particularly enjoy just walking and, due to her spatial awareness and tendency to trip, I don’t believe this would be an ideal fit either.
Josie truly is a special horse. She wants to compete and would be talented at almost anything — but she trips, and that is the reality.
I love her deeply, and this decision has not been made lightly. She is free to a genuinely good, understanding home that can meet her needs and accepts her limitations.
Please message me for an honest conversation — transparency is important to me, and Josie deserves the very best outcome 💔🐴
