We are already starting to get influx of photos from people using the new prawn colours that we launched at the Cardwell Seafest, we even got a chance to head down the river Saturday morning and catch a few Barra ourselves, we lost a few lures to bull sharks eating the Barra over the weekend, and a few of the Barra landed had battlescars also, it's becoming an ever occuring problem in the rivers south of Townsville. Upcoming good tides and moon to catch a Barra or a fingermark next weekend and the coral reef fin fish spawning closure and northern mackerel closure reef fishing is off limits we are looking forward to spending some time off in the rivers next week. With the water warming up next weekend should be cracking fishing so if you need to restock just message the page for local Townsville pickup or head to Goldstar Fishing for the Aus wide postage options.

Little snippet of a recent family day out in the boat, the REEL MANS BAIT garfish on our easy mackerel rig lasts barely a minute goes to show how good fresh local caught bait is, my opinion the local garfish are fresher and shinier making it easier for mackerel to spot them compared to your generic "dull" bait garfish from down south. We will be at the Cardwell Seafest at the end of the month be sure to come down and ask for a demo on how to rig a garfish to troll, will have our full Barra range on display, some special deals, also some complete lure packs made up with all the lures and colours handpicked by our skipper Scott he has already got the first 3 packs we made up stashed in our lure testing tinny "true blue". Some photos we received of some of our regular customers from over the weekend with the mackerel caught on our trolling rigs and the prawn still doing the damage in the local creeks for the guys with the cold water temps, and a cheeky Barra I caught while testing out the install of the new Watersnake electric motor on "true blue" our inshore vessel, I didn't have long to fish but found Barra in good numbers in the upper reaches of the local creeks.

In these videos you will find a couple of hidden tricks to using wogheads, sorry for the poor film quality we are commercial fishermen not film makers 😂 but back to the point tow the first mackerel to hook the second, and when there sitting deep a massive advantage of using wogheads and garfish is the ability to open the bail arm or stop the boat on the spot to allow them to sink like a wounded baitfish. Spanish Mackerel are by far my favourite fish to catch I will never get sick of that sound of a screaming reel. The weekends adventures bite was a bit slow but hard work and perseverance pays of in the end, Besides we can't let everyone else have all the fun with our rigs as the reason we started the website originally was to source the tackle supply for our own boat cheaper, and keep a massive stockpile at home ready to go when we need them. Took a couple of short videos when we where trolling we will post them later this week when we have time. we only took photos of the first 6 Mackie's into the boat then It was business as usual we have fish to catch and a nation to feed all Products from our boat are sold to local wholesalers and no fish we have ever caught has left Australia.

Some nighttime cold water fun on our Goldstar Fishing vibes, If your wondering why I don't look overly cheerful even though I have caught some nice barramundi I went to hold the first one up with the lure still in it so you could see our vibe embedded in him and he flicked and lodged one of the trebles through my thumb so all the blood on the deck was mine, much to the amusement of my mates I had out with me so these vibes come with my personal guarantee the hooks are sharp 😂. With the big tides this weekend comes a change in tactics for our barramundi fishing, and throwing vibes in shadow lines around all the manmade structure through the city of Townsville, you can see the cowboys stadium in the background of one of the fish and one of the main bridges in town in one of the others. side scan sounders don't work well for this style of fishing as the barramundi normally sit to high in the water column and spook easily if you get close to them, so unless your running a forward viewing sonar the angle of side scan is generally looking under the fish, so it's about the visual aspect of fishing looking for bait constantly spooking in a certain part of the shadow line as the tide pushes them towards the dark, alot of the times the Barra will feed about half a meter under the water so you don't always hear boofs but you will see the remaining bait in the school flee from an area giving away the locations of the hungry Barra, so look for patterns where the bait is consistently getting scared and swimming against the current this is a dead giveaway given how barramundi hunt into the tide , water temp was around 22deg and the air temp was cold enough for this north Queenslander to have his coat on. So for anyone new to barramundi fishing don't purely rely on your fish finder even though technology is great it's only ever there to confirm what you already know, knowledge of your target species will give you a far better catch rate, combine that with decent technology and you will forever be catching fish, but we are happy to share our knowledge so feel free to shoot us a message if you have any questions about this tactic or anything else we do.
