Townsville Eisteddfod 2026.

So much to celebrate today!

⭐️ Perry getting her last signing in Beginners! Ready to start 2027 in Novice!
⭐️ Margot returning to competition after a big break - awesome work today!
⭐️ Harriet - dancing her first Townsville Eisteddfod Premier Title (so many memories from my days of competing on the same stage).
⭐️ Our Primary’s looking as gorgeous as ever

🙌This applies equally to Highland Dancing (or any other genre).

⭐️ Sometimes students (and parents) don’t think they are seeing or feeling progression.

✅ Correct technical development takes time and is always worth it in the long run 💜

Dancers who are pushed or permitted to advance too quickly through class levels often miss out on learning fundamental technical elements of classical ballet. At best this leads to sloppy dancing and "fuzzy" lines. More dangerously, it can lead to injuries resulting from incorrectly executing movement. Do not be swayed by super flexibility, naturally high extensions, or natural talent. All students need to work through all the levels!

💜I often get asked how highland dancing levels work.

Parents and friends wonder why there is such a broad range of ages within a ‘level’.

The below information explains each level.
💚 There are specific requirements which must be met before a dancer moves up.
⭐️ Levels are not based on age but on competition placings, experience, technical ability and knowledge.
Highland Dancing teachers work closely with each student to ensure they are confident to progress to the next level.
⭐️The technical requirements become more stringent as dancers progress through the levels.

A highlight of the Sugarcane and Sword Dance competition is the lunchtime entertainment where fledgling flingers and probationary PDB’ers have their time to shine!

After a quick training session from Miss Amelia and Miss Harriet, the boys walked away with the rewards (chocolate!!):

Miss H and Miss A have proven themselves to be the next generation of highland teachers🥰. However, they were a bit miffed to learn the boys wouldn’t share any chocolate with them 😂
