Changing Seasons

Our aim is to build the warmest, most comfortable and durable wetsuits on the market. We are continuously working to improve our products to ensure they continue to evolve each season. We only use the highest-grade materials, workmanship and tailoring to make wetsuits that can be trusted to perform in the harshest conditions. This year we have focused on developing a warmer and stretchier rubber with a more flexible internal lining throughout our perennial series of cold water wetsuits.

Further South - Torren Martyn

I recently had the privilege of visiting Chile and travelled North into Peru, following the Pacific coast during a year when the weather was behaving very differently from normal. El Niño was making its presence felt, with unusually warm ocean temperatures affecting the Humboldt Current and, in turn, the weather along the coast. Torren Martyn, Laurie Towner, Hahnee Chelkowski and The Surfrider Foundation’s Drew McPherson joined Surf Coast locals, enjoying long days in the water on some lined-up waves. Torren mixed things up, riding an experimental 4’6” Simon Jones-designed twin fin, while Laurie Towner focused on asymmetrical designs. Hahnee, a surfer from Tasmania who also features in needessentials’ latest film, ‘The Spaces In Between’, rode a self-shaped longer-length board, while Drew enjoyed another unconventional craft Simon Jones-designed Remote Location twin fin on his backhand. The crew took unconventional approaches to some quality winter conditions, and below are some images from the swell.

Torren Martyn - “It was a bit of a last-minute decision. The South Pacific was showing a really good run of swell, and Mexico felt like the right place to follow it. I’ll always be drawn back to Mexico — the waves, the constantly shifting sandbars along its coastline, the food, and the people all make it a special place.”

With water temperatures hovering around 13°C and a much colder wind chill, it is evident that the Victorian coast is now entering the thick of winter, with a series of low-pressure systems starting to deliver consistent, groomed swell.
