The other club, known as Toronto Bowling Club was a licensed club which was based on the current site of Coles Supermarket. Toronto Bowling Club was formed in 1935 but was eventually
disbanded in 1990 and the members of both clubs merged into this
club. As of 2012, there are still members of this club who were
members of the Toronto Bowling Club, quite commonly known as
the Top Club. Toronto Worke

rs’ Bowling Club was formed in 1961 as part of the
Toronto District Workers’ Club which had been operating for some
years. The foundation of the first green was laid by voluntary labour
and during the construction of the green, members enjoyed the use
of the bowling facilities of Bellbird, Greta Workers, Swansea
Workers and other district clubs. Whilst records of those early days
remain undetected, it is known that our Foundation President Joe
Gibson, Secretary Tom Grant and Treasurer Joe Pickering were
among the hard working volunteers. Finally the fruits of the hard
work was realised when the No. 1 green was opened on 16 May,
1964. The Toronto Workers Women’s Bowling Club was formed in 1963 as
a subsidiary of the men’s bowling club although both clubs now
operate independently of each other. Club membership maintained a steady growth necessitation a second
green which was opened 22 March, 1981.
