Tocumwal 2 Final Round Pennant Report

Sunday marked the final round of the MidMurray Pennant season, played at Club Tocumwal, with a true local derby as Tocumwal 1 and Tocumwal 2 went head-to-head on home soil. Pride, bragging rights and plenty on the line for both sides.

Sitting 4th on the ladder, Tocumwal 2 entered the round with a semi-final berth still up for grabs. After claiming the wooden spoon last season, there was redemption and pride driving the group. Tocumwal 1, meanwhile, were fighting to avoid the same fate after making the final last year — and the bragging rights (and Keno ticket) were firmly on the line.

The opening pair of Rod Jackson and Phil Howe battled hard, but Tocumwal 1 took the first match. Shayne Austerberry and Darren Wise faced a tough contest next, going down 3 & 1, followed by Ross Clark and Ross Trevean, who also found the going tough and lost 3 & 1.

With Tocumwal 1 holding a 3–0 lead, Tocumwal 2’s finals hopes were hanging by a thread. Des Obrien and Noddy Ireland fought all day but were eventually defeated 5 & 4, while stand-in captain Shane Halloran and Jeff Rogers showed plenty of grit, taking their match to the 18th before narrowly going down 1 down.

Tocumwal 1 claimed a 5–0 victory and the local bragging rights for the next 12 months. However, thanks to results elsewhere, Tocumwal 2 scraped through to the semi-finals and will now face Deniliquin at Deniliquin on 11 January.

If you see any players who represented Tocumwal in MidMurray Pennant this season, please thank them for representing Club Tocumwal in such a positive manner.

A big thank you to Baldwin Buses for their continued support and to the Pro Shop for supplying golf balls.

Toc 1 Final Round Pennant Report ⛳️

Coming into the final round of the 2025 Pennant season, our side sat on the bottom of the ladder and were staring down the wooden spoon. Facing Tocumwal 2 — already locked into finals — the challenge couldn’t have been bigger.

But our players dug deep when it mattered most, producing an outstanding 5–0 victory to finish the season on a high and hand last year’s winners the wooden spoon instead 🥄👏

Congratulations to the entire team on a gutsy performance. A big thank you to Scott Eddy, who stepped in and did a fantastic job filling the captain’s role, and to Club Tocumwal for their ongoing support and the great lunch provided on the day.

Special mention and sincere thanks to Lachlan McDonald and Baldwin Buses, major sponsors of our pennant shirts, and Marty Walsh for his continued support through the pro shop and supplying golf balls.

With our season wrapped up, we now turn our focus to supporting Tocumwal 2 as they head into finals action in January. Best of luck!

Finally, thank you to Ian Armer for running the Pennant season.

Round 6 Pennant Report for Tocumwal 2 - Thanks to Glen for sending through!

Round 6 saw your tenacious Tocumwal 2 team beat the previously undefeated ladder leaders Deniliquin with a solid 3.5-1.5 result at Yarrawonga, keeping us in the hunt for a finals berth.

First team out were the ever reliable Jeff Rogers and Shane Halloran who fought hard all day and came away with a richly deserved halved match against their opponents.

Next out were the old stagers Denis Myers and Glen Hyde. They had any early 3 hole lead but hung tough to take their match on the last 1up.

They were followed by the impressive team of Noddy Ireland and Ross Trevean who never took their foot off the pedal and proved what a happy hunting ground Yarrawonga is for us taking the match 4&3.

Our only loss came with Shayne Austerberry and Darren Wise who just couldn’t take a trick out on the course, eventually going down 4&3 on the 15th.

With our finals berth riding on the last match, Phil Howe and Rod Jackson wore their opponents into the ground and took the match 2&1 giving us every chance to secure 4th spot on the table.

Our next match is at home where we will face off against our Tocumwal 1 brothers, with a win securing us a place in the finals series in the New Year.

Thanks as always to Baldwin Buses and the Pro Shop team for their support throughout the season.

Toc 2 Pennant Round 5, Tough day at home.

Toc 2 came up against a solid Finley side that rolled over us in what was a very strong showing on the Captains Course.

Our first pairing of Jeff Rogers and Shane Halloran were always behind the eight ball and having turned 3 down fought hard to tack back the momentum only to fall 4&3 after 15 holes.

The same fate befell our next pairing of Donavan Taunton and Glen Hyde who couldn’t make a putt while watching their opposition hole some monsters, finally going down 4&3.

Denis Myers and Mark Barker battled hard all day but couldn’t reel in their opponents falling on the 16th to go down 4&2 after another unfortunate putting display.

Our shining light were the pairing of Noddy Ireland and Ross Trevean who fought hard all the way to the 18th to triumph 1up and prevent a whitewash.

Last out were Rod Jackson and Des O’Brien who like the rest of the team couldn’t make a putt while standing back and watching their opponents hole just about everything going down 4&3.

We will need to pick ourselves up for our next match at Yarrawonga which has been a happy hunting ground against the competition leaders Deniliquin who are yet to drop a match.

Our thanks to Baldwin Buses and the Pro Shop for their ongoing support.

Pennant Round 5 – Tough Fight for Tocumwal 1

Our players gave it everything yesterday at Yarrawonga — hard work, grit, and some great rallies — but we just fell short in the overall result.

Match highlights:
• Graeme & John Bradbury fought hard but went down 4&3 to a strong low-hcp pair.
• Hiram & John Wilson battled to the final hole before losing 1 down.
• Anthony & Scott Barber staged a fantastic comeback — down 4 at one point, they rallied to take the match 5&4.
• Neil & Steve battled all day but fell 4&3.
• Scott & Colin closed it out with a 2&1 win in their match.

Big thanks to Baldwin Buses for our sponsor shirts, to Club Tocumwal and Naomi for lunch rolls, and to Marty for the golf balls.

Proud of Team Tocumwal 1 — grit shown, heads held high.

Pennant Round 4 - Tocumwal 2 v Yarrawonga

Another Sunday and another nail biter for the tenacious Tocumwal 2 team. It doesn't get any closer with the team squaring the match 2.5-2.5 with Yarrawonga on Barooga's West Course.

First pair out were the ever reliable Jeff Rogers and Shane Halloran who bested their opponents 4&3 in the often atrocious conditions, particularly on the back nine.

Next out were another new pairing of Donavan Tainton and Glen Hyde who after being 2 down early won six consecutive holes to take a stranglehold on their match, taking it out with a solid 2&1 victory.

Denis Myers and Mark Barker were next out who found the opposition a bit tougher in the conditions, but fought hard all the way to lose the match on the 18th, finishing 2 down.

Next pairing saw Noddy Ireland and Ross Clark taking on a very consistent Yarra team who were just too strong going down 3&2 after a hard trek through wind and rain on the run home.

Our last pair of Shane Austerberry and Phil Howe staged a remarkable comeback over the last few holes to take their match down to the wire for a sensational square on the last!

We now lie in third position with three matches to play (two at home!) with the top four making the semi finals early next year.

Our thanks to Baldwin Buses and the Pro Shop for their support and congrats to the Toc 1 side who had their first win of the season.

Match Results:

Tocumwal 2 vs Corowa — Another Nail-Biter at Finley!

Tocumwal 2 took on an in-form Corowa side at Finley, and once again it came down to the wire. We welcomed Shayne Austenberry and Darren Wise into the team this week, and both made an immediate impact. With blustery winds and rain threatening on the back nine, the team put in a fantastic effort in tough conditions.

🔥 Match Results
• Des O’Brien & Shayne Austenberry came out firing and wrapped up a strong 3&2 win.
• Darren Wise & Ross Jackson fought hard but were edged out 3&2 by a quality Corowa pairing.
• Club stalwarts Noddy Ireland & Ross Clark finished brilliantly to claim a 2&1 victory.
• Last week’s winners Mark Barker & Glen Hyde pushed their match to the end but fell just short 2&1 after a clutch birdie from their opponents.
• Our final group met a red-hot Corowa duo and went down 5&3 after an outstanding chip-in ended things on the 15th.

Despite the 3–2 loss to an undefeated Corowa side, we’re still right in the hunt for a finals berth and excited to hit Deniliquin next week.

A huge thank you to Baldwin Buses and the Pro Shop for their ongoing support this season! 💛🏌️‍♂️
