It’s National Volunteer Week 2026 – “Your Year to Volunteer” – and we couldn’t be more excited to shine a spotlight on the amazing volunteers across WA, including our wonderful Australian Christians volunteers. Your dedication, hard work and passion are vital to so much good in our State – from local charities and food banks, to community-focused efforts, your work is invaluable.

For those volunteers who have helped our Party, the doorknocking, phone calls, letterboxing, and prayer have been core to our success. You truly are the backbone of our communities. Thank you for all that you do – we are unbelievably grateful for you.

Sports parents are a different abreed. 😂

We have watched games in weather conditions that should honestly require signed waivers.
Pouring rain? We stay.
Freezing wind? We stay.
Heat index of 104? Still there with our folding chairs and emotional support 40oz cups.

If there’s no lightning, apparently the children are still fully expected to compete while we slowly deteriorate on the sidelines. 😭

Our cars are basically mobile sporting goods stores:
Blankets, chairs, towels, umbrellas, sunscreen, hand warmers, extra socks, chargers, snacks, backup snacks, first aid kits, Advil, and at least 14 empty water bottles rolling around at all times.

At this point, I don’t even remove the sports gear anymore.
What if there’s an unexpected practice?
What if someone needs cleats?
What if I suddenly need to survive outdoors for 9 hours on a Saturday?

We are not always okay… but we are committed. ⚽️🥅😂

20 years from now…

When that championship game your 10 year old’s team lost is long gone…

When that ref’s questionable call in that one tournament is a distant memory…

When your player’s spot in the lineup that one year no longer matters…

What will your athlete remember about the role you played in their sports experience?

Because sometimes?

We forget this is all going to be a distant memory.

The moments in which we can get so caught up in the heat of the game or season — will be just a small dot on the journey one day. (Heck, will it even matter in a few months?)

Sometimes it’s the only reminder I need to pull back on the emotion, pull back on my own competitiveness — and just let my kid’s sports stories play themselves out…

… and along the way remember the only character I’m supposed to be in their book is the one who is the first to celebrate the good, the one always there to help them learn from the hard …
.. and the one who loves them every step of the way.
