Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been part of our club this year.
Yesterday is obviously a little different to what we all hoped for. We wanted to be here celebrating a grand final appearance, and getting knocked out in the first semi-final hurts. There’s no getting around that.
But as President, I want everyone to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
We had two senior teams Reserve Grade and First Grade representing this club all season, and there is a lot to be proud of.
To all the players in both teams, thank you.
You turned up every week, trained hard, played through injuries, backed each other up and represented our club. Rugby league takes a lot out of you, and the commitment you boys have shown throughout the year doesn’t go unnoticed.
To our Reserve Grade, congratulations on the season you’ve had. You played your part in making our senior football program strong, and the competition between the two grades pushes everyone to be better.
And to our First Grade boys, I know tonight hurts. You had your sights set on going further, and when you put that much into a season, losing a semi-final is bloody hard to take.
But don’t let one game take away from everything you achieved.
To Macca, our coach — thank you for the enormous amount of time, effort and commitment you’ve put into this team. Coaching isn’t just what happens on game day. It’s the training, selections, conversations, planning, dealing with injuries, keeping the boys focused and carrying the pressure that comes with the job.
And to Mitch and Peter our managers thank you for everything you do behind the scenes. The organisation, communication, paperwork, dealing with all the little things that need to happen to keep the team running. A lot of that work goes unnoticed, but the club appreciates it.
To our committee and volunteers thank you. There are so many people who give up their time to make this club happen, and without you, none of this would be possible.
To the families, partners, parents and kids thank you for your support throughout the year.
And to our supporters thank you for standing on the sideline, travelling to games and getting behind the boys. Your support means more than you probably realise.
We didn’t get the result we wanted.
But that’s rugby league.
Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you get knocked out when you thought you had more to give.
What matters is what you do next.
We learn from tonight.
We take the disappointment.
We use it as motivation.
And then we come back.
Because this club is bigger than one game, bigger than one season and bigger than any individual.
I’m incredibly proud of what our senior teams have achieved this year, and I’m proud to be President of this club.
So, let’s put the disappointment aside for a while and celebrate the people who made this season possible.
To everyone who pulled on the jersey thank you.
To everyone who coached, managed, volunteered, supported and followed us thank you.
And to the boys hold your heads high.
You represented this club.
You gave it everything.
And although our season has finished earlier than we wanted, the story doesn’t end here.
We regroup. We rebuild. We come back stronger.
And next year, we have another crack.
Thank you everyone, enjoy the night, and most importantly be proud of what we’ve achieved together.
