Adelaide University Judo Club - AUJC

Adelaide University Judo Club - AUJC The AUJC [ ] is not a one size fits all club, suiting beginners to advance. Joe Revalk was one of the first coaches of the Club.

The Adelaide University Judo Club was formed in 1956 as part of the Adelaide University Boxing Club and was given full status and amalgamated with the Adelaide University Sports Association in 1958. At this time it was based at the university gym, on Mackinnon Parade, in North Adelaide. Hugh Willans then took over the club for a few years. Cliff Adams took over in 1970 and looked after the club un

til 1973. There were three sessions a week at this time, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. In 1974, Michael Headland took over coaching the club and has been coaching at the club for over 45 years. The club moved out of the university gym in the mid eighties to the Games Room, Level 5, Union House. The club initially maintained three sessions per week and began to grow at this venue but eventually lost the Saturday Session. The Club moved to the Thebarton Sports Centre in September 2006 as The Games Room was converted into a Fitness Centre. The Club has however retained an on Campus presence by having one session on Friday evenings at 5pm in the Irene Watson Room, together with its original Monday, Wednesday and Saturday sessions. The Adelaide University Judo Club continues to work hard to deliver quality judo opportunities to students of Adelaide University and members of the wider Judo Community.

πŸ₯‹ Training doesn’t finish when class ends.
Our dojo is our shared space, and keeping the mats clean is part of our respect for judo, our teammates, and everyone who trains here.
After every gi training session, we take time to clean the mats properly so that everyone can train in a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
A big thank you to everyone who already helps without being asked. Your small effort makes a big difference. πŸ™
We would love to encourage more members to join in and help after training, even just for a few minutes.
Together, we can keep our dojo clean, safe, and strong.
Thank you for being part of our judo family. πŸ₯‹βœ¨

2026 Australian National Judo Championships πŸ₯‹πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

What an amazing and memorable Nationals.

After three big days of competition, I would like to sincerely congratulate every athlete who represented South Australia with pride, courage, and determination.

This year, our athletes proudly achieved at Central Hub.

πŸ₯‡ 5 Gold Medals
πŸ₯ˆ 4 Silver Medals
πŸ₯‰ 5 Bronze Medals

A huge congratulations to all medal winners, and also to every athlete who stepped onto the mat, gave their best, and represented our State Team with heart. Winning a medal is special, but the courage to compete, learn, and keep improving is just as important.

As the South Australia State Team Coach and a coach from Adelaide University Judo Club, I am truly grateful to all the athletes who trusted the coaching process and committed themselves to the South Australia State Team Training at Central Hub.

Central Hub has been our official State Team training place, where athletes from different clubs came together, trained hard, supported each other, and built strong team spirit. I believe the results from this Nationals clearly showed the value of the hard work, discipline, and extra training that took place at Central Hub.

I would especially like to thank the athletes from other clubs who continuously came to Central Hub for State Team training, and also joined extra training at Adelaide University Judo Club. Your commitment, discipline, and belief in the process helped create these great results.

As many of you know, English is my second language. As an immigrant, I know my English is not always perfect, and sometimes it may not be easy to understand me clearly. But I am deeply thankful to every athlete who listened carefully, trusted my coaching, followed the instructions, and gave their best on the mat. That means a lot to me.

To the athletes who did not win a medal this time, please do not be disappointed. This experience will make you stronger. Let’s keep training harder, learning more, and come back next year with even better results. I will also continue to do my very best to support you.

Thank you again to all South Australia State Team athletes, coaches, clubs, families, and supporters.

I am very proud of every one of you.

Congratulations on an outstanding 2026 Australian National Judo Championships! πŸŽ‰πŸ₯‹

Adelaide University Judo Club is very proud of all the athletes who competed today and showed such commitment, courage, and determination on the mat.
We would also like to congratulate Meera and Amy on winning a silver medal in the Kata competition. This year, AUJC and South Australia were proudly represented by one of the largest teams of Kata competitors, together with a Kata judge, at the Nationals. Our younger participants also gave their very best performances, and we are incredibly proud of the whole team.
We would also like to sincerely thank the athletes who believed in the State Team Training process, trained together at Central Hub, and joined additional training sessions at Adelaide University Judo Club. It has been wonderful to see their hard work, discipline, and trust in the training process turn into such meaningful results.
Although there were fewer athletes competing this year compared to last year, these results once again show the strength and value of State Team Training at Central Hub, as well as the importance of teamwork, consistency, and belief in the process.
A big congratulations to all the athletes on an outstanding Day 2.
We are very proud of your achievements and grateful to be part of your journey. πŸŽ‰πŸ₯‹
We would also like to wish the very best of luck to our AUJC members competing on Day 3 in the Under 13 Boys and Girls, Under 15 Boys and Girls, and Senior Kyu Grade divisions:
