These development days are perfect for filling the gap between hard sparring and your first sanctioned fight.
Apart from the fight itself, the experience of the lead up is something for those who haven’t stepped in the ring is unaware of.
Being in what is usually a comfortable place in daily life eg. A warm shower is where now just a thought about the upcoming fight makes your heart rate go up.
Fighting the doubt after a bad sparring session.
The constant whisper of the question, “can I do this?” Watching your diet to make the weight.
Putting life “on hold” while you get ready.
Your family and friends not really understanding what it actually takes to prepare to step in there are now replaced by the used to be strangers you’ve met in the gym who get exactly what you’re going through. The head game inside the preparation IS the REAL fight. 15secs of random rage on a footy field is easy compared to putting yourself out there infront of everyone. Real, raw you in a tough spot in life. That’s real courage.
All these reasons are why these 4 people in the post have all my love and respect.
4 people just like YOU that said I’m facing life and whatever it throws at me I’m keeping my composure and following through with my head held high.
Combat sports is truly YOU vs YOU with other people watching. Proud of all you.
