Failed transmission, again.

Thankfully, I was only a few hundred metres from home and managed to roll down the hill into the driveway before we lost drive completely 🫠 Lunchbox Rally. New transmission coming up (Sigh)

Update: We changed the transmission filter again and found more hidden metal in the fluid. Seems to be driving again so now I have to do a few more test runs and hope we don’t break breakdown during the school pick up and drop off…. Sorry Grace 😵‍💫😅

Just a couple of gals, a staple gun, and absolutely no adult supervision. ✨

So naturally… The Rainbow Exhaust now has a sequin roof lining.

Will it help us survive thousands of kilometres of rally roads? Probably not. But it certainly will make us smile every time we jump in the car.

So if you see a suspiciously sparkly Mercedes cruising through the outback, you’ve found us!

We’re back baby 🌈

For those not following our Instagram: Katherine had an epic breakdown in the middle of the main road after a busy shift at the hospital. Thankfully, after hours with not too many people around, she managed to coax the car into a side street where it settled in for a prolonged “sleepover” until Chris returned from PNG.

Over the weekend Chris towed the Rainbow Exhaust to his workshop and promptly dived into diagnosing our lack of drive.

After some head scratching it was decided to pull the transmission sump off to see what might be found (all fingers and toes were crossed we wouldn’t find any glitter in there).

Thankfully there wasn’t any metal in the pan, despite the transmission fluid filter being chockas and clogged.

Quick trip to Repco for a new filter, sump gasket and fresh transmission fluid. Put it all back together and then the moment of truth - it drove aaaaaand the horrible noise was gone. Woohoo!

Test drive around the block, then Chris decided to drive it the 55kms home again - no issues on the drive = a very Happy Grace.

Finally hooking into some maintenance…. After our failed alternator in The Mercules it was the first thing on our list today to look over. 😅

While Katherine & Grace continued to bedazzle the interior Chris replaced the air filter & attacked an oil change.

Tomorrow “The Classic” is to be dropped to our Merc specialist Patrick to give us a long list of parts to replace & plenty of work to do. (hopefully not too long please 🙏)
