This Is Where Locals Connect
Meet Barry… or as most people around the club know him, Foxy.
When we started asking members who we should speak to next, one name kept coming up.
“Go talk to Foxy.”
“He’s a character.”
“You’ll love him.”
And they were right.
But behind the laughs, quick wit and familiar face around the greens, there’s also a deeply human reason Barry found his way to the club.
After many years caring for their son, who lived with a rare medical condition, Barry and his wife found themselves searching for something to help fill the days and reconnect socially after his passing.
That something became bowls.
Four years later, the club has become a huge part of their lives.
These days, Barry plays 3 to 4 times a week.
His wife plays women’s bowls on Tuesdays, Barry joins the men on Thursdays, and together they play Wednesdays and whenever else they can sneak in an extra game.
And it didn’t take long for friendships to form.
Within a week of joining, Barry met Bob and Brad, two other new members who quickly became lifelong mates.
Since 2022, the trio have been nearly inseparable.
Ask Barry what the club means to him and his answer is simple:
“It means a hell of a lot.”
“It’s the best club on the Coast.”
Whether it’s Wednesday twilight bowls, a competitive game on the green or simply the companionship, the club has given Barry connection, routine, laughter and friendship.
In his words:
“Come for the companionship and the competitive nature.”
And for Barry, that companionship has meant everything.
We’ll be sharing more stories like Barry’s as part of our
“This Is Where Locals Connect” series
Because behind every player…
there’s a story worth knowing.
