Mid-Year Grading was a huge success!

Congratulations to every student who earned their next belt or stripe today. You should all be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance were on full display, and it was fantastic to see everyone rewarded for their efforts.

Remember, a new belt isn’t the end of the journey, it’s the beginning of the next chapter. Each step forward is another opportunity to grow, improve, and become more proficient in ‘The Gentle Art’ of Jiu Jitsu.

A very special thank you to Sensei Geordie and Sensei Jess for your continued guidance, support, and mentorship. We are truly honoured to be a small part of the Black Dragon Kai Martial Arts family.

A big thank you also to Coach Nessa and Assistant Shay for everything you do both on and off the mats. Finally, thank you to all the family and friends who came along to cheer on and support our students today. Your encouragement means more than you know.

Congratulations again to everyone who graded, we’re proud of you all.

We had an amazing day today at the Grow Strong M.M.A Warwick & Stanthorpe Invitational No-Gi kids tournament in Warwick. I’m incredibly proud of how our little club represented itself on the mats.

You all showed great respect, composure, and effort throughout the day, and your performances are something to be truly proud of. There were wins, there were losses, but most importantly, there was a whole lot of great Jiu Jitsu on display!

A big thank you to Ben and his team for hosting the event, Black Dragon Kai Martial Arts for all of your continued support, all the kids who stepped up to compete, the parents who made the trip and showed their support, and to Coach Nessa for being there to help me corner.

See you all back on the mats!

Black Belt, wow. It still hasn’t sunk in.

Receiving my Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu this past weekend 06.05.26 is one of the proudest moments of my life and the culmination of many years of hard work, challenges, and growth on and off the mats.

I am incredibly grateful to Sensei Geordie and Sensei Jess from Black Dragon Kai Martial Arts for their guidance, support, and belief in me throughout this journey. Their dedication to both the art and their students has helped shape not only my Jiu-Jitsu but also my character. The Lioness Den Jiu Jitsu would be lost without Geordie + Jess and the team at BDK - I’m so very appreciative for everything you’ve done for me.

Walking onto the mats for the first time at Gracie Humaita in Sydney, back in 2012, I knew I found the sport (and family) for me. Thank you to everyone from my time in Sydney who helped shaped the practitioner I am today.

Thank you to my Lioness Den Jiu Jitsu family and everyone involved in the gym. A big thanks to Coach Nessa Butler and Assistant Coach Shay for everything you do and the individuals that make the club what it is. I can’t wait to see where we take this in years to come.

Thank you to Rem, Jack and Charli for being by my side through all of it. Late nights and long days. I love you all and couldn’t have done any of this without you.

On Saturday, Nessa and I had the privilege of attending the BDK Grappling Championship and workshop, which was an amazing experience. Being surrounded by such a high level of practitioners, competitors, and coaches was both inspiring and motivating. The atmosphere, knowledge shared, and sense of community reinforced why I love this sport and reminded me that there is always more to learn, regardless of the belt around your waist.
