Temora Vets: Dalta Ag Shield: Stfd
04.06.26

How good were those steak sandwiches after golf last Thursday? Cooked to absolute perfection, but I must add that the finely sliced Scotch Fillets were so tender, even the worst of cooks couldn’t go wrong. We’ll be doing that again, soon. So players, keep donating your skins winnings and we will have more steaks on the barbie.
Thursday the 4th of June was an absolute miserable day. Cold, damp, windy. Who expected fourteen players to leave the warmth of their lounge room? Not me, I thought we would be lucky to get eight players, that’s the minimum number of players we need to have a competition.
By 10.45am we had six players waiting on a decision, do we play or do we go home? Five minutes later another eight rolled up. We had enough players to start in the Delta Ag Shield, so off we went.
Mud was flying everywhere, but we didn’t care, we were out having fun, doing what we love. Gavin Holt (Wagga) and Ray Jennings (Coolamon) made the effort to support our day, and it just goes to show you how much they enjoy playing with the Temora vets.
Ray Jennings (9) was our winner with 38pts, Runner-up to Ray was Steve Steinhardt (3) with 35pts. Ball winners were: Dave Loftus (6) 34pts, Judy Gorton (22) after a par chip-in for a Turkey on the 18th, 33pts, Gavin Holt (10) 32pts c/b, Anthony (Boy, can he eat) Abra (17) with 32pts c/b.
Nifty Neville Elwin (10) also played well for his 32pts, and he was a bit unlucky to have missed out on a ball prize. But, with Manly beating Souths in the NRL that night, he’ll be smiling until next Thursday.
Nearest the Pins: The 3rd hole was just too hard to reach on the day. The 7th was a different story as Steve Steinhardt had no trouble leaving his ball just 2.37m from the hole. Dave Loftus just scraped in for a ball on the 12th with 7.4m. Bill Robertson claimed the 16th once again with 5.24m.
Delta Ag points were awarded to Ray Jennings 6, Dave Loftus 5, Judy Gorton 4, Gavin Holt 3, and Anthony Abra 2.
Shot of the day: Word spread quickly around the course that Nifty Nev had birdied the par-3 12th. Apparently, it was a worthy Kodak moment. I wasn’t presented with a lot of details on club selection Etc, but I’ll do my best to make Nifty proud.
Nifty lined up on the tee ready to produce the shot of his life. After several waggles with the club, determining the wind direction, the barometric atmospheric pressure and whatever else Nifty does in his pre-shot routine, he manage to hit his ball no more than 10 centimetres off the ground. A dead set skull. The ball finished behind the green with a very challenging second shot awaiting.
To his credit, Nifty Nev just smiled and made his way to the back of the green. Club selection must have been difficult, but he grabbed his weapon of choice and proceeded to play the most glorious skull you could ever witness. If the flagstick didn’t get in the way, Neville would have been playing his third shot back at the 12th tee.
Amazingly, Nifty Nev's ball, after slamming into the flagstick, leapt approximately 60 centimetres into the air and dropped into the hole for a birdie 2 and 3pts. You don’t have to paint pictures, it’s a 3 on the scorecard no matter how it was obtained.
Next week we play for the Intersales Cup, it’s a stroke event and visitors are always welcome.
