The rehab journey is never as fast and easy as you want it to be!

I remember religiously doing my exercises twice per day for weeks with no change .

Then one day i realised that I could turn over in bed and it didn’t hurt as much.

The signs are subtle but when you notice them it is such a relief!

Here are some signs your body Is actually Healing
1. You can sit, stand, or walk for longer without needing to stop
2. Movements that once felt sharp now feel manageable
3. You’re not thinking about the pain all day, every day
4. You can change positions with more ease (getting in/out of bed, rolling, bending)
5. Your sleep is improving because you’re more comfortable
6. Strength is returning—even in small, subtle ways
7. You feel more confident moving your body again
8. Flare-ups are shorter and less intense
9. You’re starting to trust your body again
10. You’re doing things you once avoided
Healing isn’t linear—and it’s often quieter than we expect.
But these small wins? They matter.
They’re signs your body is adapting, rebuilding, and getting stronger.
If you’re on this journey right now, keep going.

What’s one small win you have noticed lately?

Let me know in the comments so I can cheer you on x

Confessions of a Pilates Instructor
I’ve been teaching Pilates for 21 years, and there’s something I want to admit.
For a long time, I truly believed that if you were strong and took care of your body, you’d never experience something like a bulging disc.
I was wrong.
It doesn’t take much. A short period of inactivity. An unexpected life change. That’s sometimes all it takes.
Despite being strong, it happened to me.
During chemo, I was spending more time resting—on the couch, in bed—far more than usual. Then one morning, it hit.
Zapping pain down my leg.
Stuck in one position.
Every small movement causing sharp, shearing pain.
Diagnosis: a bulging disc.
What followed were weeks of struggle—
Difficulty walking (with a numb foot),
Struggling to sleep (even turning over felt huge),
Putting on shoes, and everything in between.
It was confronting, frustrating, and humbling.
But here I am, 18 months later.
Pain-free. Strong. Capable. And incredibly grateful.
So how did I get here?
Pilates.
(With a little help from three physio sessions and some acupuncture.)
And a new perspective: strength isn’t about being invincible—it’s about how you rebuild.
The comeback is so sweet 👌🏻

If you have faced a challenge in your body and you are ready to re build, I’d love to help ❤️

Look at this memory that popped up from 14 years ago!

Who remembers the cream carpet?!

I started out with a dream and some goals

Looking back I’m so grateful for this community we have here which has been built piece by piece.
Some of you have been here since the very start and some even before I opened up here from home back in the Moonee Ponds studio!

Thanks for coming on this ride with me, let’s see where the next 14 years takes us 🙌

The trap most people fall into when doing Reformer Pilates is…

Believing that each class should be different to keep it fresh and exciting

While that might be great for the mind at the time it’s actually a huge mistake!

Pilates is repetitive for a reason!

Your nervous system loves repetition — not because it’s boring, but because it’s how your body builds safety, trust, and regulation.
Repetition builds trust through neural pathways which is really important especially if you are doing Pilates for rehab.

When you know the sequence like the back of your hand , you can concentrate on going deeper with the work , really refining your technique and you also get great flow . This results in a quicker more efficient workout.

I have been practicing the intermediate repertoire for 21 years and there are still things for me to learn and work on in my own body.

Repitition is where it’s at 😉

Wondering if your Pilates instructor’s qualification matters because all Pilates looks the same?

The thing is, they are far from the same but you are not to know that if you are new to Pilates…🤔

Your instructors qualifications can make all the difference to your results, especially if you’re using Pilates for pain or injury.
Here’s why:
• A qualified instructor understands anatomy and how to modify for injuries
• They’ll check in about your pain and remember what you’ve told them
• They give you specific tweaks, not just generic “do this” cues
• An instructor with their Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Pilates is trained and qualified for rehab—not just fitness like most Reformer only instructors

The reality:
Two people can do the same exercise, but one instructor will help you feel better, while the other might make you flare up.
If you’re doing Pilates for back pain, bulging disc, or rehab for another type of condition, you need someone who teaches you, not just the routine.
Your body deserves more than generic. Choose an instructor with their Diploma or Advanced diploma (even better)

It’s perfectly ok to ask them their qualifications and a highly qualified instructor will welcome your curiosity 💪

When I was in my early 40s, a friend told me that after 45, your body starts to go downhill.
I brushed it off.
I was healthy. I was strong.
I thought that would never change.
I thought I’d stay this way well into my 50s… and beyond because I was so proactive about taking care of myself.
Turns out I was so wrong.
At 47, I got a breast cancer diagnosis.
Then, almost immediately after, a bulging disc.
It was hell. Just… hell.
The cancer treatment shoved me into instant menopause.
No warning. No preparation.
Just hello brain fog, bloating, weight gain, mood swings , joint stiffness that made me get out of bed like the tin man, and the real risk that I could develop osteoporosis because my estrogen was basically gone.
It was everything I feared, all at once.
But I’m still here.
And over the past year, I’ve fought my way back from so much.
I don’t know where I’d be without Pilates.
Honestly.
It’s the thing that helped me rebuild strength I didn’t know I still had.
It’s helped me breathe through the stress (even though that battle is still happening).
It’s helped my mental health more than I can say.
It’s given me hope that I can still get stronger, even as everything changes.
It’s the reason that osteoporosis isn’t necessarily a sure bet
This is the truth:
Your 40s and 50s might not look like what you planned.
They might not look like what you hoped.
But with the right support, with the right guidance, with the right people…
you can still have something really, really good.
Even when the sh*t really does hit the fan

Pilates is deeply personal. It’s a journey that meets you exactly where you are.
And the right programme can help you navigate through all stages of life—through recovery, through change, through the hard days and the good ones.
Whatever you’re going through, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

If you looking for someone to guide you through your health journey that’s been through some stuff then I’m your girl 🤗

The stomach series with a twist

The stomach series doesn’t need to be messed with. Simply because it is so challenging and I don’t think you ever feel like you have nailed it 😬

But, I these variations are great after a run or a ride to held lengthen out the hip flexors and open the front of the hips.

Instead of reaching the legs forward, tap the floor and slide the leg away.
It feels really nice

The stomach series
1. Single leg stretch
2. Double leg stretch
3. Scissors
4. Lower and lift
5. Cross cross

Which of these are you up to in your Pilates practise?

Try these variations next time and let me know what you think x

A super Common Question I get asked at least once a week is…

“Are Your Classes Reformer?”

Here’s the honest answer… 😉

✅ Yes, a reformer is part of my studio… but there’s so much more.
My studio has a reformer, but it also has:
• Wunda Chairs
• Barrels (Ladder Barrel, spine corrector, baby barrel)
• Cadillac (Trapeze Table)
• Small apparatus (magic circles, springs, accessories)

I offer much more than just reformer.

If you only do reformer classes, you’re getting a subset of what Pilates can offer. Adding Chair, Barrel, and Cadillac work gives you:
• More variety in movement
• Different challenges for strength and balance
• More tools for injury prevention
• A richer practice
• A personalised approach to your Pilates practise so a much better result

When I first started teaching Pilates 21 years ago, the only options were mat Pilates or studio Pilates.
Somewhere somehow the fitness industry realised that if they offered a watered down version of Mr Pilates work ( squeezing in as many reformers as they can ) and created sub standard training schools which churned out instructors in a short time , they could make $$$$
And so we are here.
And it’s all a big mess sadly.

It’s not about the money for me.

It’s about my clients and how I can help them reach their maximum potential.

So I understand when I get asked if I teach reformer. But I also feel it’s important to educate on what Pilates truly is.
It’s getting lost in the noise of social media Reformer Performance 😢

Don’t let the fitness industry limit what your body can learn.
You will also be surprised that there’s not much gap cost wise , yet a huge gap service wise…

What kind of Pilates have you tried?

Have you been on the Wunda Chair or the Cadillac?

Saturday Self Care

A slow jog with my puppy followed by a stretchy mat

We all know we should be stretching after exercise but what if you killed 2 birds with 1 stone and combined stretch with strength?

AKA Pilates?

As we get older we definitely need to do more mobility but the exciting thing is that we can build strength in the right places at the same time!

And all you need is a mat or even carpet…

Feels so good 💕

Let me know if you would like me to share some of these wonderful exercises in a bit more detail that you can add to your post exercise stretching routine?
