**Morning Boxing and Strength Session: Building Confidence and Resilience**

This morning, I had the privilege of working with an amazing client during our boxing and strength training session. He's not only a dedicated individual but also an incredible person who continues to inspire me.

In our 12-minute boxing session, we focused on a combination: **double jab, cross, slip, cross, duck, cross**. The video showcases the technique, but what it doesn't show is the practice and dedication behind perfecting these movements. Before the recording, we spent about six minutes practicing to get the technique just right. Boxing is as much about mental resilience as it is about physical prowess. It's the sound of the pads, the connection of the punch, and the timing that make it all come together.

**Technical and Psychological Insights:**

Boxing teaches us invaluable lessons about confidence and resilience. Often, when we face something negative or hear discouraging words, our first instinct is to drop our guard, both mentally and physically. In boxing, this can leave us vulnerable to getting hit. The same applies to life. It's crucial to keep our hands up, stay focused, and not let a missed punch or poor technique bring us down. The support and encouragement from those around us are vital in helping us maintain our focus on the bigger picture.

**Seamless Transition to Strength Training:**

The positive energy and focus from the boxing session seamlessly transitioned into our strength and conditioning workout. We covered six sets, focusing on arms, biceps, triceps, shoulders, back, and biceps. The session, completed within an hour with good form, exemplified the power of perseverance and dedication.

**Psychological and Scientific Perspectives:**

From a psychological standpoint, focusing on positive aspects and not getting bogged down by mistakes is essential. Practicing positive reinforcement and mindfulness can enhance performance and reduce anxiety. Simple cue points like "hands up," "stay light on your feet," or "breathe" help maintain focus and improve technique.

**Conclusion:**

Today's session was a testament to the incredible dedication and respect my client has shown. He not only worked hard to improve his technique but also maintained a positive mindset throughout. This approach will undoubtedly benefit him throughout the day, keeping him resilient and focused on the positives.

📢 Amazing Rehab Journey: From Hamstring Tear to Glute Strength! 🏋️‍♂️🏃‍♀️

🔬 Science-backed Rehabilitation Insight: Hamstring Tear Recovery 🔬

Hey friends! Today, I want to share some fascinating insights on rehabilitating a grade two hamstring tear and regaining glute strength. 🤓 Let's dive into the science behind the recovery process and the exercises we've been using for my incredible client, John! 🙌

🕓 Recovery Timeline: Patience is Key ⏳

Recovery time for a grade two hamstring tear can vary, but on average, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the torn muscle fibers to heal. However, complete rehabilitation and return to full activity may take several months. Remember, everyone's journey is unique, so patience and consistency are crucial during this process. 💪

🏋️‍♀️ Concentric Exercises: The Power of Controlled Contractions 🏋️‍♂️

During the rehabilitation process, we primarily focus on concentric exercises, which emphasize muscle contractions while shortening the muscle. This approach allows controlled strengthening of the hamstrings without putting excessive strain on the healing tissues. By gradually increasing the load and intensity, we help John rebuild strength and mobility in his injured hamstring. 🏃‍♂️

💡 The Eccentric Mystery: Why We Hold Back 💡

You might wonder why we haven't incorporated eccentric exercises, which involve muscle lengthening under tension. While eccentric exercises can be valuable in later stages of rehabilitation, we've decided to prioritize concentric exercises to minimize the risk of reinjury. Eccentric movements can place significant stress on the healing muscle fibers, potentially hindering the recovery process. By exclusively focusing on concentric exercises, we ensure a safer and smoother rehabilitation journey for John. 👍

🍑 Glute Power: A Vital Component 🍑

But wait, there's more! We don't just stop at hamstring rehab—restoring glute strength is equally important for overall lower body stability and performance. The glute muscles play a significant role in supporting the hamstrings and preventing future injuries. We've incorporated targeted exercises like glute bridges, squats, and hip thrusts to activate and strengthen John's glutes, ensuring a solid foundation for his comeback! 🏋️‍♀️🍑

💪 Embrace the Journey: John's Inspiring Progress 💪

Witnessing John's remarkable progress has been truly inspiring. From the initial setback of a grade two hamstring tear to his dedicated rehabilitation efforts, he's shown incredible resilience and determination. Together, we're taking scientifically supported steps towards optimal recovery, one exercise at a time. Keep shining, John! ✨

🌟 Testimony of Courage and Transformation 🌟

I am honored to share the remarkable journey of an extraordinary woman, Joe (short for Joanne). Today, I want to celebrate her unwavering courage and the incredible transformation she has undergone.

When Joe first approached me for personal training, she carried with her a burden of challenges—physical, mental, and emotional. It seemed as though life had presented her with an overwhelming list of obstacles, from physical injuries to joint problems. But Joe did not let these challenges define her. She had an indomitable spirit, and she refused to accept that her current circumstances were her permanent reality.

Together, we embarked on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Through open and honest conversations, I listened to Joe's experiences, frustrations, and dreams. It was during these heartfelt exchanges that I learned about her previous life—a time when she felt free, uninhibited by pain or limitations. This memory ignited a spark within her, a glimmer of hope that we would nurture and cultivate.

Drawing from Joe's own wisdom and the insights she shared, we began to rebuild her sense of self. We focused on activities that had once brought her joy, reminding her of her own capabilities and strengths. Step by step, Joe started to reclaim her self-belief, that unshakable confidence in her ability to overcome any obstacle.

As Joe embraced these activities, a remarkable transformation unfolded. She experienced the power of cognitive reframing, shifting her mindset from one of limitations to one of boundless possibilities. The pain that once seemed insurmountable gradually faded into the background, replaced by a newfound sense of freedom and liberation. Joe's resilience and determination were unwavering, and she began to radiate her inner strength through every movement she made.

Today, I am filled with awe and admiration for Joe's journey. Her story is not merely one of physical transformation, but a testament to the unyielding power of the human spirit. Joe's courage and determination serve as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing her.

I invite you to join me in celebrating Joe's incredible journey of self-discovery. May her testimonial be a source of inspiration and encouragement for others facing their own challenges. Let us remember that within each of us lies the capacity for transformation, and with unwavering belief in ourselves, we can overcome any obstacles standing in our way.

Personal training is truly an incredible experience that goes far beyond lifting weights and building strength. It encompasses a personal journey of growth, laughter, and enjoyment. Today's session was an absolute fuel-filled masterclass led by Luke and the amazing master trainer, Simon Gilboy. We even had the pleasure of creating our own rendition of Phil Collins' "Easy Lover" during our music-filled workout.

As we jammed before our session, laughter filled the air, and fun became the backdrop of our training. The combination of music and exercise triggered a surge of heart-pumping energy, releasing endorphins and other positive chemicals in our brains. It was a truly euphoric experience.

In personal training, we discover that it's not just about physical transformations but also about the personal journey we embark on. It's about finding joy in the process, embracing the challenges, and celebrating the milestones. Through this Facebook post, I hope to convey the magic and magnificence of personal training to everyone who reads it.

Luke and I even recorded ourselves air-drumming and singing along to the music I played on a makeshift guitar or bass. It was a lighthearted moment that perfectly captured the essence of personal training—unleashing our inner child, embracing the humor, and connecting through shared experiences.

So, let's celebrate the power of personal training, where laughter and fun blend seamlessly with hard work and dedication. It's a transformative journey that not only shapes our bodies but also uplifts our spirits and brings us together in an extraordinary way.

Steven on the left of me has given me permission to share our story.

Steven and I say to each other quite regularly, "Today is the best day of our lives because we are never gonna get this day again". And if you are Steven, you would agree, because Steven is fighting cancer.

I met Steven before Christmas, last year. Steven was walking his dog, his head down and he just looked down trodden.

I saw Steven and pulled my car over to chat with him.

I said, "Hi mate". Steven replied with a stutter, "Hi hi hi mate".

We chatted for a while, and Steven revealed to me he was fighting cancer, and he wanted to be there for his family in the long-term.

All I could say to myself was, Lord how can you use me in this situation?

We said goodbye. And I went home to share the story with my wife.
I felt helpless, but hopeful that I would see him again and sure enough we met again a week later.

I invited Steve to come and train with me at the gym. So glad he took up the invitation.

Our first training session I noticed he was very frail and skinny, and had a pale complexion. He was a man that lacked confidence, but had a determination to fight. So we started using that determination to turn things around.

With cancer you have to be careful to make sure you're not overdoing it because you need your white blood cells to fight the cancer. So we started off light and easy, working on good technique and having some good chats along the way.
Steven on the first day mentioned to me the fear of when he goes to bed, wandering if he's going to wake up. He constantly thinks about his family. That broke my heart. And made me more determined to help him.

Day after day, he kept turning up and training. Day after day, Steven kept listening and humbling himself. He would listen to me about how technique and humbling yourself in the gym, is the most important part of growth and has an overflow affect outside the gym too.

I've watched him go from lifting 4 kg dumbbells while doing chest press, to now lifting 15kg. And from initially 4kg to 12.5kg now on shoulder press.

In this time, Stephen again humbled himself and got support with his thinking.

Week after week, Steve would keep rocking up and training hard.

Steve would have some nightmares that you would never imagine, night after night.

I suggested to Steve that he got some help with those thoughts. We found someone to support him and again Steve was courageous enough to let someone support him. That thinking has changed in Steve, he no longer has nightmares at night or goes to bed thinking about will he wake up. All he thinks about before going to bed now is, that he can't wait to get up walk his dogs, go to the gym, and live life!

Within the 3-month period Steven's put 5kg on. When you're dealing with such a heavy issue in your life, your appetite changes, you don't eat as much which doesn't give your body a chance to fight the disease, which is a big thing. We've worked on is eating - from not really having an appetite at all, to eating regularly and consistently.
In this time, Steven has also reduced his medications through his doctors guidance, and has also drop some old habits and developed a lot of new ones.

In the short time I've known Steve we have done 60 strength training sessions together. The whole time that we've been training together Steven has never complained. His amazing attitude has rubbed off on to me. Being around him, makes me a better person.

I quite often thank him for what he's showing me about myself. I always thank him for making me a better person.

Four key components that I have worked with these great athletes.
STEP 1: Dynamic Warm Up
The goal of this active, or dynamic, warm-up is to increase body temperature. With an increase in temperature, the heart rate, oxygen levels and blood flow increases as well. Muscles, ligaments and tendons are supplied with oxygen making them more elastic and pliable, in turn making them more resistant to injury.
STEP 2: Mobilization and Activation
They decrease the risk of injury.
Activation exercises can help relax overactive muscles like your hip flexors, which tend to get overactive if you sit for long periods. They also encourage the targeted muscles to work effectively, so you don't overcompensate with other muscles.
STEP 3: Speed and Power Movements
Why is power and speed important?
speed and power are key components of fitness in a range of sports and activities. in simple terms, speed relates to how quickly we move, while power is a combination of strength and speed. in order to design effective training programmes, you need to understand the mechanics and physiology of speed and power.
STEP 4: Strength Movements
Those with greater lower body strength can produce a higher peak ground reaction force. Those with greater lower body strength have a greater rate of force development during the foot strike in running. Both peak ground reaction force and rate of force development are contributors to sprint speed.

Mental Toughness is a personality trait which determines, in a large part, how people respond to challenge, stress and pressure, irrespective of their circumstances.
I have witnessed Scott get knocked down on our 5 month journey together. He never complains, he just keeps getting back up.
There is an old Japanese proverb that says the concept of resilience and the 'insistence' that no matter how many times you get knocked down, you must get up again, this proverb lives in Scott's DNA.
Scott has been determined and committed to achieve his goals, regardless of the challenges he may of experienced along his journey.
Scott, you are a man of Honour. It has been a privilege to watch you go to the next level. Your goal is in sight. And I'll be standing at the finish line with many others cheering you on.

Oliver is a farmer, he is always active and "on the go" but this is no replacement for exercise. Farm work is physically demanding, so it is no surprise that farming has always been synonymous with health and good physical condition. Your a legend Oliver! keep up the good work 👏
